Red Faction??? Was there a boycott?

Threaten to take away the safety certificate perhaps?
That is right - they can do it piecemeal in enforcing the closure of sections of the stadium.
The older fans will remember sections of Ayresome Park being closed or having capacity slashed for safety reasons. It wasn't from standing, it was more from the fabric of the stands cru, bling etc but they were ordered to close Clive Road corner upper and Boys End area.

At every stadium ?
Is up to the Safety licensing authority - every football club has to have a Safety Advisory Group - for the first time I attended a meeting so fans now have a voice at what can be a meeting with consequence. I did tell everyone on here I was attending in advance if they had matters to raise.
Anyway, this has to be for another thread - just to say there are people around that table at these meetings with the power to press for closure of sections of a football ground if they feel safety is compromised. Whether that is the case or not.
And with rail seating technology now available we are seeing pressure brought on clubs to bring this in to areas of persistent standing.
It is no coincidence that we are seeing a growing number of Championship clubs following Premier clubs introducing safe standing. Where have we seen it this season? Sunderland, Cardiff, QPR, Norwich.. where else?

Oh yes of course Pride Park.

And of course we can expect rail seats for away fans at the Riverside next season - as it is obligatory that home and away fans afre both offered safe standing.
For away fans the club has to consider several things - that no one's veiw is blocked if they are seated and that the standing is in an area open when clubs take lower allocations for games.

But can I make clear Red Faction do meet with the club at the Riverside - they are independent but like Middlesbrough Supporters Forum of which they were a valued part for many years they do meet with Boro officials.

But I don't know whether this has been the case in the past few weeks.

What I mean is that there is a fan culture… it’s not being herded in like cattle to a concrete box whilst being told to sit down with arms folded.

Fan culture is not pay up what we tell you when we tell you. Fan culture is supports of a club and community.. it’s not a bloated box ticking exercise dressed in high viz.

OK, so essentially fan welfare? I can see that.

However, I think there's contradiction between letting of pyro and promoting fan welfare.

One of the biggest issues I see in fan welfare is reduced allocations for travelling fans. Behaviour such as letting off pyro provide all the excuse clubs and police need to reduce allocations further.

Good point.
If we ever let a flare off at Sunderland, all Boro fans will be banned forever!

'best support' is subject to opinion, i'm sure Rangers, Newcastle, Leeds would disagree. If you read the post I'm referring to Celtic's Green Brigade, which is their 'Ultras' they've gone from a group of about 200 to around 3000, and have in the process largely upset the rest of the fanbase as they believe they speak for all fans, I go to Celtic park 4 or 5 times a season, your hard pushed to find a fan who now doesn't think they are a negative influence
Every team in Scotland have ultras groups, the scene up there is growing rapidly because they’re backed by other supporters. UB (Rangers Group) are facing trouble with the board at rangers at the moment and there’s nothing but support from the wider fan base for the group. Would be the same if Celtic faced trouble.

You can’t mention Leeds & Newcastle in the same breath as Celtic and Rangers because nobody in England comes close to the atmosphere & support of those two clubs. You’ll see when you go 3 or 4 times a season that Celtic Park is probably the best in the UK for support. They have 2 groups who produce incredible tifos week on week, they push charity work, and are fantastic in the stadium they stand for what they believe in so you will always face troubles with select fans from being such a vocal group as they are. Not everyone will love you. Due to the way they support they’re known all over the world for having such a great support and that’s down to those groups who create it.

They’re a bunch of chunts

It is a fact - the licensing body for football grounds has been calling on clubs to take action. If you ask Red Faction they may well be aware of this.
It is something that has been building over the past couple of seasons.
Seems odd after decades of turning a blind eye that now they have issue with standing. Maybe it's to sell the rail seat infrastructure. They know clubs have no way of getting fans to sit down without alienating their fanbases.

Is it decades though? Probably an age thing but I don’t remember standing at the riverside pre about 2008

Away fans used to get their tickets cut for persistent standing in the early 00s but then that stopped. Red faction are what 16 years since formation, so that's how long standing has happened at the Riverside.

That's the bottom line isn't it? I might support Red Faction if they come out and say a) if they are boycotting b) why, and c) what they would like to happen. If it's reasonable, it's likely to get a lot of support. where better to make your case than one of the large online forums? Most of us generally like what they do most of the time and would like them back.

I bunged them a few quid last week despite all this carry on, I like ‘em, apart from the drummer 😛
