Recycling old mobile phones

I've got a drawer with about 10 of them going back to the 2000s.

Some might charge, some might not, either way I'm concerned that someone might be able to steal data or personal info etc from them. So what's the best way of getting rid responsibly? I don't want to just chuck them in the bin.

Isn’t there an Electricals recycling down the local tip?

I know it probably varies by local council or am I missing something here?

Yes we have a electrical bin in the recycling center, good for old phones and indeed most battery/main powered operated small appliances.

Don’t actually live in Middlesbrough!!!

Or are you speaking on behalf of Huntingdonshire District Council, to whom I pay a fekking fortune to in council tax just to get my bin emptied once a fortnight?

Just asking. Winky Smily Thing.

Stuart Langley is creating some iconic artwork near Middlesbrough rail station from old mobile phones.

You can put them in a clear bag and then put them on top of your bin in Redcar & Cleveland and they get collected that way

Thing is they're konked out and I even if I could charge them which I may or may not be able to do (or even can be bothered to do) I probably don't remember the pass codes
If all you want to do is reset the phone and wipe all data, you don't need the pass code - at least if they're Android phones.

I'm not familiar with iPhones but I suspect you can factory reset them also.

Or some scrote will nick them.

And a technologically minded scrote could easily steal your personal data.

What, you think a factory reset phone erases all your data?

There aren't any "technologically minded scrotes" in Redcar. I've got one of these in the bag ready to go as it's finally given up the ghost

If you've seen the recent firebomb attack you've got a good indication of the level of 'criminal genius' who live near me. There deffo aren't cells of Jason Bourne level sneaks, it's more Dumb and Dumber. Alternatively, if you live amongst Black Hat scrotes, you can stick them in one of the bins the councils put out R&C WEEE recycling

I used to have one of those Alcatel Clam phones - cost me £8 new and used it was good for around 7 years.
