There's the obvious Rockcliffe - we will if theres nowt better but we didnt have a good experience when we went a few years ago - the place was rammed with chavvy mackems and made it quite stressful.
Any recommendations for a single night stay at a Spa hotel for me and the wife?
We're looking for a nice Spa during the day/next morning and obviously a nice meal and a few drinks to round the day off.

Seems you were unfortunate to have had a bad experience at Rockliffe. Seaham Hall is another good shout, but the wife and I prefer Ramside Hall near Durham. Great Spa, great food and very friendly staff

Matfen or Slaley if you don't mind a bit more travel

Few years ago I was flying abroad from Edinburgh airport and me and the mrs had a spa weekend up there called Norton house hotel and spa, it was unbelievable and well worth it if you’re willing to travel.

The parsonage just outside York is good, nice adults only pool with saunas steam rooms etc also has its own pub on site.

you have to be careful with some of these spa hotels as they can often allow locals to use the pool as a leisure centre

not very relaxing when its full of screaming kids

Bit more of a trek, but this place is lovely and as ska66 says it also only opens the pools to hotel guests. Children are allowed in the rooftop pool though (it's why we've been a few times) but not in the old spa baths in the basement.

I've not stayed at Ramiside Hall, but we've done loads of work there, and they're always adding bits and refreshing bits. I expect it's worth a visit, looks good from the outside at least.
