Rav to Brentford ?

Yep they have alot of work to do to make us competitive, they need to get their finger out and get us some good standard championship players.

I don't think he was great to be honest, and would have happily seen him moved on at the end of the season, but as soon as Ipswich recalled Edmondson to mess us about and up his fee, we should have just kept Clarke. Edmondson had been pretty brutal since the start of Decemeber, we seem to have gained nothing positive from it. We have given out a permanent squad space and a £1miilion-sh fee? for a league 1 level centre back who should be about 4th/5th choice for a team pushing for the upper play-off positions. All to allow us to loan in Giles, Nacho or Illing-Jnr. It was a ridiculous decision looking back, we played Howson at centre back from January pretty much and barely played Giles anyway.

It looks like Rav could well be leaving, and Lenihan is a complete unknown after 20 plus months out, so I'm just praying we play in a defensive style from now on that sees us able to utilise Fry/Edmondson in a way that compliments their strengths, I doubt either will be moved on.

Amd wasn't he coming to the end of his contract and had refused an extension? He was better than Edmundson IMO but you have to take the money when it's on offer and move on.

I don't really care about that part of it, why Edmundson on a permanent after his form had fell off a cliff, why that time, why not the end of the season?

Anyway, away from the point of the thread.

It was a ridiculous decision at the time, I don't know of a single fan who coming in to the start of January was thinking, lets hope we get Edmundson tied up on a permanent.

We needed a squad player, he's a squad player. It seems a pretty minor decision in the grand scheme of things. Yeah, his form dipped, but so did everyone else at the back. Up until December generally everyone on here was positive about him.

Arguably Ayling and Lenihan might never return to the level we require..that’s a bigger call.

We have too many players anyway, the way to improve is by removing the worst players and adding ones higher in quality, so these would naturally be the ones to sacrifice for me.

Agree but think as squad players in the correct approach no messing around at the back, 3 man midfield, edmundson, barlaser and maybe burgzorg can be adequate squad players in a 46 game championship season.

Lenihan I hope could still have a few good years in his legs if he is managed accordingly.

The whole squad has on whole had plenty of time and has under performed IMO given the ability on paper.

Defenders have been asked to play a system that exposes them, we regularly where left with 2 men back last year with CM miles apart and players who didnt have the pace to recover, so tactically on the transition we must be better, that was a major fault of the previous regime.

We have some good technical players but collectively as a team im yet to see a performance where they are able to grind out and dig in when required, that ability is a must in football and that mindset is something we must look to include within this squad over the summer.

Confidence is everything and we have players in the front 4 that can hurt anyone when there on there game we just need to see some connections and confidence back in the team.
 
He's really really hard to put a price on IMO.

If it was end of last season I could understand it more.

Talk of £15 million from Brentford sounded pretty high to me for this summer, but I suppose there is a 'potential premium' of sorts still in play.

I had thought (before the rumoured £15 million chat) that something like £5 million or £6 million with a high add on percentage would maybe be fair after a poor campaign. But the caliber of clubs, and their number will hopefully see us get a good fee and some add ons.

If we can cover the costs (fee & contract) of maybe three mid-career champo experinced good solid pros, CB, RB & DMC then I think that would be good buisness.

15 mill would be unreal.

In reality he has had a fantastic 8/10 breakthrough season … and probs a 6.5/10 2nd season for me.

Actual value is probably around 7/8 million … but as you say add the intangible ‘potential’ into the equation 🤷🏻‍♂️
