Rav … class act on and off the pitch

He didn't get any offers to counter ours . He and his agent had an understanding with 10 euro clubs about him being 'of interest' to them , in a scouting fashion. It's a formal decision to tell young players that might come good quickly , that you are courting them. What they don't tell a young player though, is the 10 other young players around Europe that are also on their watch list for the same position They do this so when or IF it comes to an offer situation, they hope by already having informal chat with the agent and player, the big club hopes this can be a leverage point if they have to face off with another club that's just come into the picture. Its like saying hey look here, we told you we liked you 8 months ago , why you looking at that team.

Rav just rang them , which I agree is a good character feature, to say thanks for you informal interest in scouting me so far but I've been offered a real opportunity in the EFL which right now will see me get more match time.
Rav played 90% of his mins in the last season for PEC up to early Jan then hardly got a look in 5 subs in 20 matches in the 2nd half as other seniors were preferred. By his team getting promoted, this was unlikely to change for the next season.

I'm glad he's here, but there were no contract offers in for Rav other than ours. The article is very smoke and mirrors.

Just read there were 10 clubs after him last summer and when he decided on Boro he contacted each of the clubs to personally explain his decision.

Fair play for an 18/19 year old! 👏🏻

I bet the number of clubs keeping an eye on him is more than 10 now 😮
It sounds even more impressive when you watch the interview with Kieran Scott which is the source of the story. The interesting stuff starts at about 20 minutes in. The Rogers transfer to Villa is detailed at 26 minutes and the VDB story starts at 55:20.

It was noticeable last night when getting his awards he kept emphasising how grateful he was to be playing games. That is obviously his priority. He has learned a lesson from his brother's Liverpool "career." That is why he will want to stay at Boro. To be able to play first team.

If only more young players would do this, so many with potential end up sitting in the U23 and cameo appearances for the big clubs for the money, and waste there talent.

Get to mid 20’s and hardly kicked a ball on the big stage, then disappear down the leagues with a nice nest egg

Watch the goals we've conceded this season & his petulant reactions, throwing his arms & appearing to blame others for what was, on more than one occasion, his fault.
Plymouth at home is the one that sticks in my mind, every goal & chance for Plymouth he's looking back into midfield & waving his arms around despite have backed off 15 yards into the penalty area every time letting their player have an uncontested shot.

He's decent but he's got a long way to go, still behind Fry & Lenihan when both fit.

He could be a great player, he's only young etc but absolutely miles from being part of 1st choice CB pairing in a promotion team.
I mean, he's not "absolutely miles" from being 1st choice is he, he's started 36 games this season.

Can’t really say much more than what everyone has said already, Rav is just a class act. Fully deserves the accolades he has received.

At this moment I would say the preferred Centre back pairing is RvdB and Clarke. Definitely good enough for a promotion seeking team at this level.
I could maybe see Lenihan disrupting that but not Fry.

Absolutely this … after the end of season form it’s up to someone to break that partnership as opposed to Rav having to ‘cement’ a starting role.

As right back when Smith was injured and then as CB when Fry, Lenihan, McNair & Clarke all had spells out injured.
Assuming all fit (big assumption) I don't think he starts 1st game.

Not for me, it’s now his place to lose. Up to those more experienced gents to do something special or get the rub of the green to get back into the team.

Opening game of next season I would be shocked if it’s not Clarke and Rav.

He could be as good as Willie Maddren at his current rate of development.

Loved it when I heard he turned Real Madrid down for the Boro!

Agreed, the question is do we pair him with one of our current CBs or sell one and upgrade
I expect Clarke and Rav to be our first choice CBs next season, with Lenihan and Fry as back up. Fry will never leave the club unless absolutely forced to, and we have no idea what level Lenihan will be at when he finally does come back from injury

Like many on here, I'm a massive VDB fan and you can just see his class a mile off. Any mistakes he's made (and there have been a few earlier on in the season), he's just put them to the back of his mind and not let them effect his game. He's berated other players for leaving him exposed at times and he's an inexperienced 19 year old playing in a new country.
Things like this are great pointers for a player that will potentially one day be a top - and I mean, TOP central defender. I'm taking, Real Madrid, Dortmund, Byern, Arsenal, Citeh......

Potentially being the operative word there. He's still got a lot to learn onviously but it's not a given that he'll hit the highs that are predicted of him.

But my god, he's going in the right direction.
He's my favourite player 😌 right now.
