Re Play Offs

I think it makes a difference if you are able to rest players in the last couple of league games of the season.

I remember Villa did before they played us in 2018. They had nothing to play for in their last 2 league games. They still lost in the final but it helped them in the Semis.

Opposed to say Brighton who had to play Derby in mid week then play us then into the play offs without a rest and on a downer after drawing to Derby and us i.e two opportunities to go up automatically. Brighton were out on their knees against Sheff Wed with tirednes, injuries and suspensions.

That lad from Ballyclare and the hairy one from Leeds are pretty useful to have in the squad (y)

We don’t play to shoot outside the box, we creat crossing opportunities or short pass openings inside the box. Noticed how unwilling Mcgrie was to shoot from outside the box on sat, must be the plan.
we don't, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have that option. Neither Howson nor Hackney have that in the locker. We play with a lot of width and our CMs have been free in that area and bottled the shot or pulled it. Teams will play 5 at the back to try and limit our opportunities and a 20 yard free shot can be the key to unlocking defences. We don't play to create the shooting opportunity but in the course of a game you can't turn down a free shot from 20 yards and I doubt Carrick tells them to

It is in Hackney's locker.
It was in Howson's once upon a time.

29 shots outside the box in Hackneys career and scored one, not sure he's proven to have that ability yet.

Howson, he doesn't have it now, I'd like his long term replacement to be able to bang the odd one in from 20 yards.

We put a lot of crosses in, when cleared we need to take the shot occassionally.

Not sure where the "shooting from outside the box" theme has come from, but Smith has a fair shot on him.

I forget if it Blackpool or QPR where he forced a great save.

It's how CMs often score goals, our CMs have 1 goal between them. The other point was CBs 1 goal between them. There are improvements to exploit there. I believe that Barlaser can bang the 3 or 4 a season

I was referring more to Maddo's observations about Hackney from his time in the youth team.

different level in the pro game, less space, closed down quicker, better quality keepers. For us and Scunny 29 shots 1 goal. He might have it in him, but he hasn't shown it yet, and it might take time to develop it. Hope he bangs a 30 yarder in against Swansea

All true. But it does show that he has the ability to score from outside the box 'in his locker'. All he has to do now is open the locker and release the beasts.
