Rail fares up 5%

Tried to get from Manchester 2 weeks ago, all trains cancelled due to tree on the line, and to Manchester again yesterday, all trains cancelled tree on the line.
I suspect maintenance is also not what it should be due to profiteering.

Network Rail, which is responsible for maintaining track & track side (including trees), is publicly owned.

I ask about ticket price rises because if the staff get pay increases of over 5% there is obvious pressure to increase ticket prices - the same if diesel and electricity prices rises.

I must admit some rail prices in the UK do shock me with how high they are, say over 25p per mile and thats with a rail card. Its actually cheaper to travel in a small car and thats without any passengers.

I'd happily pay more.... If they cut out the strikes / replacement bus services / canceled or reduced trains etc.

Just seems that even on the few occasions I'd use a train they are not fit for purpose. I may just be unlucky 😒

The East Coast Main Line is a shambles, mainly during the week, as the overhead electric wires are old and not fit for purpose.

However, I never thought I’d say this but I get the 11.39 York - Boro and 17.20 Boro - York on matchdays and they’ve always ran this season

Ignoring the appalling reliability, British rail fares are an absolute disgrace compared to the majority of the world.
