Quoting Andy McDonald - The Northern Echo pulls no punches

If he can’t be trusted to do the right thing re his own behaviours, if he can’t be trusted in his words, why on earth can anyone trust him to lead our country with the vital matters of our times?
Why can he be trusted to act on our behalf re Ukraine, Cost of Living crisis, Climate change and decarbonisation, when we can’t even trust him to follow his own basic rules?
I find it impossible to square the circle that only Johnson can lead us forward, of that he is the best person to do so.
It is a disgraceful episode in our political history.
I can’t understand how anybody can support this morally bankrupt charlatan.

...and to add to that why would any other country trust the UK to honour an agreement signed up to by this appalling government after the Brexit/Irish debacle?

Great post.
The answer is;
The Tories did a massive cull of ‘conservative’ mps for 2019 election bringing in far right thinking brexiteers claiming to ‘get our country back’
Therefore, these Tory mps don’t care a jot.
They will keep Johnson no matter what he says or does because they know he is their ‘holy leader’ and only one who will keep up the brexit is good charade and pied piper them towards another election win once the voter suppression legislation is passed in parliament shortly and with all the major media outlets (papers and TV) controlled by Tory sympathisers then they’ll confuse the swing voters and get back in.
Sadly 😞

Interesting yesterday that it was widely reported that it was all the new, younger MPs that were so vociferously backing him, while the older longer serving MPs (Roger Gale for example) were the ones highly critical.
This is a very, very dangerous path we are now on, with a large amount of MPs who now do not give one sh*t about their actual role, and see this as a job with riches to be made. Keep quiet, back the leader whatever (as we see in most votes) and one day you could get your greedy snout in the top table trough.
Politics in the UK is absolutely fooked. Whole system needs ripping up and starting again.

I’ve got a horrible feeling he still has the backing of the majority of the country.

I’m lucky enough to have been just turning 17 when the tories won the 92 election and I remember when John Smith took over the leadership of the Labour and the swell of popularity of Labour and the way the country had just had enough of the Conservatives. It was tangible and without trying to quote a song, you could feel it in the air, a change was taking place and it was going to be for the good of the country and even though we were still under Tory rule it was only matter of time till they were gone.

But this is different, I’m not feeling that at all. I don’t see a light at the end of a very dull and dark tunnel. I just know that in 2 years time, when the war is over, when Covid is a history lesson, when the cost of living crisis we have now has gone (as it has become the norm), then people will still believe the Facebook stories, will still fall for the bluster and will still put a cross in the wrong box

And they still won't be thick.

Absolute tragedy that we lost John Smith. IMO he would have been a really good PM
