Quick pulse check on flying and abroad holidays

Travelling abroad wasn't an issue for me last month. That being said we drove to France rather than flying. Easier to socially distance on the euro tunnel. I'm not sure how I would feel about flying but I have itchy feet so would probably want to fly somewhere sooner rather than later

Thanks for that, I didnt realise, was going to book it today as well

No worries, we almost missed that too!

Medeira is exempt from quarantine and the local government on the island provides a free test at the airport when you land. You just need to stay in your hotel until the test comes back which takes 6-12 hours.

One of the safest forms of transport at the moment - as others have said, incredibly well organised at airports and on planes, air filtering, seats distanced, people complying with mask rules.

Compare and contrast with trains, buses and socialising in the UK (from what I can see on news reports and conversations with friends and family)

In June, when it looked like things were calming down, my mate convinced me our families should all book a holiday for New Year. 6 months felt like a long time for things to improve.

We're now two months away from it and isolation on return now looks certain, plus the fact that further restrictions could be put in place. If the flights had been cheaper I might have let it ride a bit longer, but as it was New Year the flights were dear and we had a lot invested. Ryanair just offered me a full refund and it was too tempting not to take it.

So in a nutshell, we were going to, but have now decided against it. Too much hassle.

I don't fly, and haven't since Stuttgart away, so almost any foreign travel involves going through France and/or Belgium. I could quarantine on return but would rather not. In March I pretty much ruled out any foreign travel this year - in February I'd had at least three trips planned. It'll just have to wait.
