Questions raised over government’s use of zoom for cabinet meeting

“A source added the app was quick to set up between the varying systems used by different government departments.
Over time, a more coherent system was expected to be introduced, the person said.”

“It was quick to set up” - Yep always the first priority you look for in implementing a highly sensitive government secret communication meeting.

These ministers have needed to communicate with their staff and attend cabinet meetings.
And that has left little option but to use commercial systems, of which Zoom has become the most popular.
"NCSC [National Cyber Security Centre] guidance shows there is no security reason for Zoom not to be used for meetings of this kind," the government spokeswoman said.

Seems they had little option in a time critical incident so this was used.

They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Have a meeting without self isolators and people would whinge
Put meetings off for a few days whilst a system is set up and people would whinge
Spend money on a high tech system instead of fighting the virus and people would whinge

I don't think it will have been something boris thought up and just whatsapped his mates with an invite
