Quartz or laminate work tops?

Looking into them for a new kitchen and the price difference is MASSIVE!

Is quartz that much better?

Any alternatives?

We had silestone in the last house and it was no problem and looked very good, would be interested in others thoughts as my joiner friend is fitting units from Howdens but I need to find somebody to do the worktops and looking at 'granite' types. There's probably a good Teesside firm out there that someone can recommend to do just this?

Can’t comment on worktops but take your howdens quote to diykitchens and get a price off them. It will be cheaper, then go back to howdens and negotiate. You get the same kitchen for less.

You can post your howdens quote on MsE home forum and people will tell you if it’s overpriced or reasonable- their discount system is weird and fitters get X discount of off massively inflated prices but there is a lot of room for negotiation and people often save a lot

It varies between fitters and its apparently practically random which is why I suggest you post your itemised quote on mse “in my home” forum (Google it) - people will tell you if it’s well priced or not, likewise send it to diy kitchens and they’ll make you up a basket of the quote for you to take to howdens to compare

My mate had one done by then and loved it but his sister had a nightmare but ymmv. Diykitchens is online though so pretty cheap, hence gives you an idea of bargaining position

Reproduction centre in Hartlepool for worktops (now call furniture fireplace and granite wearhouse), think they have a small place in Boro too. It’s not the best showroom, but the products and job they do is great.

We had some quartz sparkly thing, it’s fab.
