Quarter Finals & Semi Finals

Without getting too nerdy and mathematical, there are 51 different combinations for the 3rd place qualifiers still possible.

In 45, Paraguay play Germany next
In 5, they play someone else
In 1, they don’t qualify

Can you give us the amount of combinations for England's opponents (assuming we finish 1st)?

How many Senegal/Congo/Ecuador etc

3rd place from the following groups….

K (26 combinations)
I (13)
E (8)
J (4)

Obviously not all of the combinations are as likely as each other. If DR Congo beat Uzbekistan they are our most likely opponents if we win the group. If they don’t, it gets more complicated - possibly Ecuador, Senegal (if they qualify), Algeria or Austria.

Down to 31 combinations for the 3rd place qualifiers now.

Again, all the below is assuming England top their group…..yeah, I know….

The combinations are as follows.

Group K (16)
Group I (13)
Group J (1)
Group E (1)

To clarify slightly, if DR Congo beat Uzbekistan, England v DR Congo will be 100% confirmed (unless they somehow overtake Portugal, in which case we will play Portugal).

If DR Congo don’t win, we almost certainly will play Senegal. Ecuador, Austria and Algeria are only very remote possibilities now.

I can’t keep up with it.

Just been on Talksport that Scotland now have a 0.05% chance of qualifying for last 32.

Are England still likely to play Senegal?

If DR Congo and England win, it's 100% them that England will face, as far as I can tell.

The odds are just based on whether they're going to beat Uzbekistan or not, and whether England top their group.
