QPR - Shithousery Mastery

May sound daft, but why does play have to stop for a substitution? As long as a team doesn’t have anymore than eleven active players at anyone time, might be a bit chaotic at first, but fourth official could administer all this and let the ref now via his earpiece?
Yes, I like that, works in other sports (off the top of my head Ice Hockey?) why not.

As punters we pay to watch the ball being kicked not some tawt pretending to have cramp.

Very good point, but given the way subs often come on with instructions to dish out then it may be that there wouldn't be enough support from inside the game to ever get this considered. They need that stop in play to allow the sub to be properly introduced into the match.

The true masterclass in shithousery came from the big clubs persuading the little ones that five substitutes is a good idea. Losing? That's no problem if you've got a **** ton of money. You can just bring on half a new team at any point in the game.

Exactly it’s no coincidence as this was done by design. Prem sides are revelling NFL sides now in size of back room staff and players.

This in turn limits the options for the better players to go out on loan as they know now that they can sit tight and they will get a chance.

Yes, and its a dark art i absolutely love when we are the ones carrying it out. Swings and roundabouts.

I agree with a previous comment, no reason why 4th official can't manage substitutions during the game, between him and the ref, and linesmen they wear earpieces and mics so can all be done while the games in play.

4th Off - "Hi ref, 87th minute, Middlesbrough are making a sub, their final sub of the game, number 2 Jones is coming off, and number 14 Smith coming on"
Ref - "Ok 4th, let me know when its done"
(30 seconds later)
4th Off - "Hi ref, Sub complete, 2 Jones is off and 14 Smith is on the field all good, sub complete"
- The ref doesn't need to do out, the 4th official can record it, they don't do anything. Let them manage substitutes and even when medics want to run on too ffs

The stadium PA would make an announcement too. Absolutely no reason this can't happen for players able to leave the pitch under their own steam.

The rolling subs will never work imagine how many 12 or 13 man sides you’ll end up with “accidentally”.

As managers will try and exploit this we all know the type.

I used to hate it when dimi would go down with cramp when we were a goal up under Karanka. You just knew you would see 8 minutes injury time go up. My main memory of watching games down the pub on sky in them days is standing out the back having a fag as I was too nervous to watch the stoppage time.

To be fair they had no choice but to perform sh!thousery. We were playing them off the park at that point and if they tried to play toe-to-toe and fair we'd have battered them. It's a bit embarrassing for a home team to be 3-0 but then spend 45 mins behaving that way though. It doesn't bode particularly well for them.

Not with a jobsworth 4th official stood there, knowing the eyes of both benches were on him, and all the cameras etc, he would ensure the sub was off, before letting another on. If we took Jones off for Smith and they just so happened to attack our right side, unlucky for us. That would be the stopper. Soon as someone seen us making a swap down a wing, you'd get overloaded down that side, or you'd have Jones running off, and one of the Boro side would kick the ball out of play anyway.

Doesn’t rugby league do it too? I always hear about players being interchanged but never see it so presume they don’t stop play

How can you, if the departing player has to check in with the 4th official before the sub comes on? Exception would be the keeper I suppose.
