I'd argue thats the governments position, its not respective of everybody. Much like how our governments position on immigrants being sent to Rwanda isn't shared by every citizen.
You're asking a lot for people to inward reflect and say, hey I'm a bit of a shithead, I better not bid on this. The best we can do, is ordinary citizens, is boycott the event they've paid so much money for. Having people not attend something you spent $220bn on, is not a great look on the world stage.
I never made that argument.
Think they hoped they could contain it, but with whats happening in the rest of the world, people are starting to take more notice of this type of behaviour. Ultimately, it will be uncomfortable for them for a while, but as usual, people will forget and move onto the next thing and the Qatar government will keep doing what the Qatar government does.
I did laugh when I read though that QIA said they may pull out of London due to the focus on human rights abuses. They said' we can invest in other parts of the UK', as if they think the news in London doesn't get into the provinces.
