Putting the price of booze up like fags

All fun banned is where we are heading
They tested that during the lockdowns and restrictions too.

Pubs shut.
Restaurants shut.
Cinemas shut.
Leisure centres shut.
Swimming pools indoor and outdoor shut.
Theatres shut.
Gyms shut.
Playgrounds for the kids shut for **** sake 🤣
But you were expected to go and work in a warehouse for twelve hours a day as that was fine because you weren't having fun or socialising, you were making money for the man.

Drinking alcohol can increase your risk of cancer - The more you drink, the higher your risk.

Drinking alcohol increases the risk of 7 different types of cancer. This includes:

  • Breast and bowel cancer (two of the most common types).
  • Mouth cancer.
  • Some types of throat cancer: oesophagus (food pipe), larynx (voice box), and pharynx (upper throat).
  • Liver cancer.

I don't drink Alcohol - not for the reasons above.... but I'm sick of being tarnished as being "odd" or "something wrong with me" by drinkers

Teetotalers get a horrible time when going out and attempting to socialise

A mate of mine when we were 18 used to run his Pug 106 on oil from takeaways. He used to visit various establishments in East Cleveland and towards Whitby and charge them less than what a professional waste oil firm would charge for removal of waste oil and run his car off of that. Bought some bits off of eBay to convert his fuel system and away he went. The only downsides been the car wouldn't go past 70mph without stalling and the smell of takeways that filled his car.
He did all this for about two years.

You’d get absolutely no grief from me for being tea-total. I admire you for it 👍

How much duty is paid on a pint bought from a pub?

Drinking in pubs is getting far too expensive so the answer seems to be that people are calling to put the price up for booze bought from a supermarket.

Why can I just not see the logic in the above, is it only me?

It strikes me pubs have already started reinventing themselves as eating/coffee houses full of kids and dogs . My locals are pretty much those now and drinkers are kind of the nuisance element who get in their way

If we go to a restaurant should we expect the food to cost the same as in the supermarket? Regarding booze in the U.K., it is a massive cultural blight. In terms of pricing, it's usually a race to the bottom. Which pubs are busiest? In my experience, the ones with the cheapest drinks.
I think this misses the point that some supermarkets appear to sell alcohol on special offer as a loss leader to get people to shop there.

They have to with supermarket booze being about 4x cheaper.

Alcohol abuse in the uk is cultural and has very little to do with the price. I work all over the world and you meet drunks of every nationality. However whilst working in Europe where you bump into European holiday makers, the drunks are invariably English. Not Irish or Scottish.

That's because it's a British cultural thing to spend a holiday pssed up. There are some others that do this as well Russians being one of them. But most Europeans won't spend holidays ***ed up in my experience, maybe only the students.

You'd know far more than I do about the intricacies pal. Agree that the industry is long overdue some major reforms. It's almost certainly unsalvageable in anything resembling the "good old days".
We need to look at the changes that were made to get it to this point and maybe reverse a few of them.

I'd have rid of pub companies altogether, what a disaster they've been. They should be owner managed with drinks price ranges set by the government.

That's true and skews the observation, but it still demonstrated that it is cultural and not price driven. Alcohol is very cheap in the Polish pubs in Poland and twice the price in the tourist joints, where do the Britts go? They go to the bulldog and the Premier league pub and 4 4 2 to sit with other English drunks paying twice as much for their beer.
