Putin to declare annexation

This is a game changer as this then makes attacks in these territories an attack on mother Russia.

Worrying times.

Attacks have already happened in Crimea and Russia proper, I don't think an unrecognised annexation will change much.
They're occupying the territory whether they annex it or not.
Ukraine will try to reclaim it whether they're illegally annexed or not.

Russia threatening to use nukes because they're getting pushed back isn't going to end well for Russia (or anyone else).

It will be harder to revert the process as Crimea has shown.

The only way it's reversed is if Russian occupiers are kicked out, whether the Russians annex them or not.

That's the tricky thing, not an illegitimate referendum.

Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria have all been Russian puppets for decades without annexation, but they remain puppets because Georgia and Moldova don't have the military strength to boot the Russian troops out.

It's just an attempt to placate the increasingly agitated Russian people with evidence of success.

Can anyone annex anything these days? I'll just say I've annexed Russia, see if they come looking for me. If anyone says I can't do that I'll just say "Already done, sorry".

Or I could be walking out of Sainsbury's with some sausages I've not paid for. If security challenges me - "It's ok mate, I've annexed these"

Do you think the man on the Vladivostok omnibus really cares about whether Russian troops occupy parts of Ukraine 7 time zones away? I’m not sure how much support publically in Russia they have for this. Think this is all played out for Putins head not popularity back home.

File with Trump asserting that he can declassify documents by thinking about it.

Just Vlad being Vlad, he's fukked he just doesn't know it yet. It is meaningless rhetoric. He has been told that if he uses a tactical nuke NATO's response will be immediate and (importantly) conventional. Lord Richard Dannatt, the Former Chief of the General Staff was interviewed on Sky news this morning, as he put it "if I was a sailor in the Russian Black Sea Fleet I wouldn't be sleeping very soundly tonight"

You might also have seen the joint US/UK exercise yesterday where they used a variety of weapons to destroy an old US destroyer ex-USS Boone? That was a little demonstration for the Russian admirals.

I doubt Putin much cares what people in Vladivostok think.

It's the people in the likes of Moscow that he'll be bothered about and Russia is 7 months in to a needless war with almost nothing to show for it, and a flatlining economy, and the unrest is only growing.

Kay's response to his comment about we could sink their entire black sea fleet, was shock. But then he said it with such conviction.

He was making the point I made that Putin will use this solidify his hold on these areas and the worry Is that these areas will no doubt be part of cease fire as well so it’s very unlikely they’ll return to Ukraine.

Not sure Ukraine will accept that
