I love the British pub culture and standing at the bar to get served and paying for drinks as you get them.(No tab)
Long may it thrive and prosper.

Well an oncologist on twitter has indicated an exit strategy could start in mid May. Starting with businesses with less than 50 people reopening. I think other countries have taken this approach too.
Everything will be fully functional by July 1st is my guess. And that is purely a guess.
Capybara, you do get used to knowing who would like to see a trick and who wouldn't. Some folk say no of the bat, and that is fine. If I do show something it is 1 or 2 at most. I am generally well recieved - There is an old magic joke. How do you get a magician to show you 10 tricks? Ask for one.I was replying to Laughing.
I'm in agreement there CuthbertEach to their own I guess, but personally I prefer going up to the bar myself. Not a big fan of table service in bars like that.
I have to say I've really got used to it and much prefer it - it's the norm here in Spain of course
Yeah lived in Andalucía up until last year and I much preferred the more civilised system of sitting down at a table, having your drinks bought over to you (accompanied with free tapas) then settling up at the end.
As a non-drinker it is easy for me to say, but would the move to more of a cafe culture be a bad thing?
People sat at tables enjoying a drink and food, being brought drinks and food by an army of waiters etc might actually be a better business model and also reduce the incidences of binge drinking.
If it were to start in September & let's make that a goal to have something positive to aim for then it woukd need to be policed very stricktly with no pubs bursting at the scenes at weekends for quite a while
I think the buttons in the lounge were for the use if any ladies who weren't supposed to queue at the bar.The lounge in the pub where I worked in the 70's, Kings Arms in Billingham, had table service.
Many older pubs at the time still had push buttons around the walls no longer connected.
The choice was taken away from us, we didn't demand it.
