Although it’s not their fault, Actually they should take some of the blame, because they talked down to brexiteers and that entrenched people in their views even more
Wait, what.

Somebody does something stupid. Someone else warns them they have done something stupid. The first somebody then vehemently defends their initial stupidity.

An this is the fault of the second somebody? Wow. I hope you never become a judge.

Recognise this?

Jesus it would be funny if it wasn't our futures and our children's futures the dumb xenophobes, racists and little Englanders had fukked.

Not when it comes to Brexit it isn’t. He’s literally obsessed with it.

What he has done is validated your first post as he goes on to refer to brexiteers as stupid therein talking down and entrenching leavers views.

Nah, not having it.

I get that that remainers could have done better to try and win the argument, in particular by trying to keep calm and not resort to insults (although it was an emotive subject and hopefully the penny has dropped as for many as to why remainers were so frustrated).

But to suggest remainers should take any blame for the decision made by others is a cop out for me. Any leaver using that argument is essentially saying "not only was I easily fooled by the leave campaign, politicians and farage etc, I also was so easily offended by a bit of name calling that I decided to double down on a poor decision that will impact not only me, but everyone I know, just to stick two fingers up at those remainers".

It's not a great argument. They had a chance to change their mind. Those who didn't and backed Boris have got what they wanted. Time to own it.

No, the reason it is Remainers fault is that we should have been aware of Professor Carlo M Cipolla's 5 universal laws of basic human stupidity.

Law 1: Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

Well, we definitely didn't realise it was as high as 17.4 million.

Law 2: The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

Since stupidity is a variable that remains constant across all populations - politicians, businessmen, professors, economists, lawyers, farmers etc - Remainers badly misjudged this major characteristic of leading Brexiters.

Law 3. A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

Ahem.

This is of course most Brexit voters, though some leading Brexit advocates can be placed in the bottom right Bandit quadrant.

Law 4: Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

We were kind of trapped into having to deal with the stupids I suppose.

Law 5: A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

'We can do nothing about the stupid. The difference between societies that collapse under the weight of their stupid, and those who transcend them are the makeup of the non-stupid. Those progressing in spite of their stupid possess a high proportion of people acting intelligently, those who counterbalance the stupid’s losses by bringing about gains for themselves and their fellows.

Declining societies have the same percentage of stupid people as successful ones. But they also have high percentages of helpless people and, Cipolla writes, “an alarming proliferation of the bandits with overtones of stupidity.”

“Such change in the composition of the non-stupid population inevitably strengthens the destructive power of the fraction and makes decline a certainty,” Cipolla concludes.'

We must of course also add the Dunning-Kruger effect. Brexiters are really quite blameless for this fiasco, since, due to their stupidity, they are unaware of just how stupid they are.

Haven't got time to discuss the science behind the evolutionary and psychological factors behind stupidity, but hopefully we'll get round to it in a civilised and respectful manner.

Interestingly nothing in that about remainers who still voted for the Tories knowing that was the only party who could deliver Brexit

Nothing as stupid as reading a made up twitter thread and pretending it’s real.

Imagine having such a high opinion of yourself that you refer to yourself as non stupid and people with a different view as stupid 😆

This is a common mistake of stupid people. It is not having a different opinion that makes one stupid, it is having a stupid one.

I refer you to Law 3.
