Private Hearing Aids

**** right off, I’ve had 30 year of jokes about my deafness you ****, if you had made that “ joke“ to my face ( I assure you) I would have taken your head. off and shat down your throat.
Had you simply apologised for being a d*ck, , however, I’d have accepted it but you’ve proven yourselve the dog most people will judge you as.
Osboro - we sympathise with your condition and the reason you are responding but please rise above making retorts like this. Far too strong.

What's happened to NHS audiology?

They seemed to have a large service in South Tees - I took my Mum to Brotton, Redcar, James Cook for trestings and drop ins at Guisborough a few years back. Redcar in particular had a very good dedicated testing lab, better than say a private provider we visited. In lock down it was difficult to engage with them and now there seems to messages emerging that people have to go private.

Is this a hidden close down of audiology as a NHS service?

Almost completely deaf in one lug and have been for decades. Got away with it coz the other has worked OK but as I get older it gets worse.
Been on the list to see the NHS Audiologist for months and months and also getting nowhere so watching this with interest.

I went to the Woodlands at Darlo to get a lump taken of a ******* and they were spot on, thankfully 😁
I'd be interested to know anyones experience with their hearing specialist?

In the past my mum was unhappy with Spec Savers as they recommended the wrong type of hearing aid (they didn't sell the right type for people who were quite severe hearing loss), Boots in Middlesbrough were linked with North Tees for some reason and we don't tend to deal with North Tees. Amplifon were very good, but very expensive (£2k per hearing aid!) at the time and wanted the customer to take the risk with hearing aid (if they didn't take to them etc). All this is historic now going back 3 to 9 years and will be different to some extent now. My mum used the NHS in the end, they don't have the trendy and techy aids, but they are free (or were) and she felt they gave her completely honest advice. All the other suppliers are run for profit (probably maximisation). If NHS Audiology is closed there is a clear example of politics affecting our lives, £2k to £4k is a hell of alot of money for someone on a low income.

Any one gone this route.?
Cant be done with the farce that nhs audiology has become, my budget should not be an issue .
Any recomendations or advice?
I'm a hearing aid audiologist , been doing it 23 years . Have a shop in Middlesbrough centre , Boro ST holder and pretty much do every make ,style and price point. If you need any advice always happy to help anyone.
The best make, model and style really depends on your loss type, expectations lifestyle etc but most top brands have pros and cons .
We also fo trials , lets you use them for a week or so before you buy.

Amplifon

Its good that Amplifon are giving no purchase weekly trial now.

Amplifon is a major Italian audio retailer, I assume Biggy has the franchise for the Middlesbrough shop.

I know Specsavers is a franchise operation, but most customers aren't aware.

I went down the Boots root about 14 years ago. On my third set - they are amazing. I can wirelessly blue tooth the tv and my in car phone through my mobile, to receive a call I just tap either hearing aid. Google Maps gives me directions straight to my hearing aids. Expensive - £2k+ - but worth every penny.
Gone are the days being sat in the pub isolated by the noise.

You never said which ones you went fo red_clowne

Those are Phonak Marvels.

Boots hearing are owned by Phonak , that's pretty much all they sell.
We sell.all major brands , some are far better than others and more suitable for different types of losses. Main reason to get independent advice and not take product advice off football forums 😀

I will need to pay you a visit biggy. I have the information from Boots, Specsavers and Scrivens and am totally bamboozled by it all. I am looking for a pair for 2k or less.
