Private Eye and Teesside freeport

Is there a movement to get a investigation into the whole Teessworks scam?

Is there a fighting fund I could contribute to ?

Or is this another scandal that won't become public until every guilty individual is dead and avery stolen pound has been laundered.

The land needs to be cleaned up I think and hope everybody would agree.

Jobs lost from the massive decline in heavy industry in the area need to be replaced - again I think everybody would agree.

I certainly want to know who is responsible for the clean up and what have they been given and what have they done so far and what are the the plans for say the next 3 years.

I am not against granting ownership to private companies if they are bearing the costs and responsibilities. MFC was given free land with new services provided for free by Teesside Development Corporation in 1994/5, in return for the building of the Riverside Stadium. That has brought in some further development in Middlehaven, not as much as hoped and at a slow pace, but some has happened. To be fair it was a difficult site, with heavy contamination and limited accessiblity until recently. MFC have created employment at the Stadium, moved forward since 1994, raised the profile of the area, created an education centre at the Stadium, brought International games to the stadium and major musical events etc

With Public money been used for say the Teesworks development we are entitled for 100% transparency on what has been paid for what and why.

Ref Anna T's comments - The land does not quite belong to the people of Teesside, I believe it was bought with Central Governement funding on the condition it would be made safe for new economic developments. Didn't a lot of it belong to SSI?

It should also be an open and transparent process for bidding with no self-serving or favours to mates

But they don't do they? They dip into the public purse and when the money runs out (they've spent it all) they simply walk away. It is the same with Privatised Utilities, we were sold this as a way of getting private investment instead of public expenditure. What has happened is that they have profiteered and run the operations on a shoe string with the bare minimum of investment. No where is this better seen than in water. We are now the "Dirty Man of Europe", what a time to be alive...

Try reading Tees Valley Monitor if you want to know the details of the grubby goings on.

In summary: Houtchen has used hundreds of millions of tax payers money to buy land from Thai banks then given the land to his mates for three fifths of fcuk all. They and he will cream off their share of profits when the pirate port gets going with its tax dodging, third world working conditions and smuggling while no doubts stiffing the tax payer for more funds all the way. Have I missed anything?
Didn’t he do something similar with the airport too?

They don't have to own the land for it to be developed. The land could be leased at reasonable terms with a an annual tax being put into a trust for future land clean up.

It's absolutely disgusting what is going on in our area.
A handful of extremely dubious characters are stealing money hand over fist, all the while being ignored by our, so called, local press.
This should be all over the MSM aswell.
Wonder why it isn't?🤔

In fairness - Financial Times, Guardian and Times have all covered it.
Even Gove has said it needs investigating.

Last I heard they'd agreed the investigation (Houchen says he wants one, btw, to clear his name)
Apart from being 'naive' he's don nothing wrong, he says.

Just remember that defence if you ever need it.

An investigation by a panel handpicked by Gove.
