Premier League warns PFA of £762m penalty if season is voided

The football ‘industry’ is having a terrible Coronavirus response.

I think they are doing themselves a lot of damage, maybe the bubble has burst in an unexpected way.

I said this the other day on the gazette website comments section. Clubs are only bothered about players, owners and investors now. Those who claim it's all about community and the fans are lying to your face.
The professional game of football is dead.
Long live the beautiful game of football.

Its those below the Premiership, especially in Divisions 3 and 4 [lets say it like it really is] who face the biggest issues:

Not only do clubs experience the eccentricities of dubious owners [like the former owners of Bolton, Bury and Notts County] but they rely far more on the gates to keep their clubs going. Without fans through the turnstyles they are knackered.

Fans wont just lie down and roll over. The existing structure of football is geared to following the money, with the private company which is the Premier League swallowing almost all of it. Sustainability will only come when the clubs themselves take back control from the out-of-touch EFL:
* So far they havent helped clubs outside the Premiership by negotiating a decent deal for TV broadcasting rights.
* The "fit and proper" test is a scam - the EFL havent the balls to take action until its too late. Ask Bury fans.
* The EFL play second fiddle to the Premiership - like a dog sniffing at the table waiting for the scraps after the big boys banquet.

I dont have a template for the new order, but it will have to emerge - and very quickly - if clubs are to sustain themselves - or go out of business altogether before the end of 2020.

I suspect football might resume in February or March next year.

Football will resume behind closed doors in the next month or two..

You really honestly think the world is going to 'pause' for a year.

I don't even care about the footie I'd love to be out on the golf course today

Not a cloud in the sky here today sir... It's going to be tough but best behaviour from me. I have the luxury of the garden mind.

I read an Indian guru the other day who said only the rich have the luxury of lockdown. Not so much in most of India which made me take stock and realise.

One good to come out of this would be Premier League disappearing.
I agree CTC. Its like the spaceship on the cover of "Out of the Blue" by ELO - ready to take off to a European League and the money.
If the "big" clubs want to break away then GO!
Perhaps then, we can restructure the four 72 League clubs into three leagues and invite the National League to become the 4th Division?
We still have the F.A and League Cups.

Great solution but why stop at the national league? Restructure the entire football landscape for ALL clubs large and small.

There are too many pigs at the trough getting fat from the money that the PL generates for it to disappear but wouldn't it be nice. :sneaky: :)

I will be gutted if we start the season again behind closed doors (which will happen) - fans don't matter anymore.

"During Saturday's conference call, the Premier League warned that it faces a £762m financial penalty if the season does not resume, and broadcasters demanded refunds on games they could not show.
It added that hundreds of millions of pounds could be lost in sponsorship and matchday revenue because the season has been suspended, and that the campaign will almost certainly be played behind closed doors if it resumes."

How much will it lose if next season does not go ahead. If it is losing this for a quarter of the season it must be much more. Plus if Sky and the likes start asking for their cash back then surely their customers can as well. Plus add to that the anger it would cause if they did ask for money back from the P.L etc. I think you would find a lot of people cancelling their sky/virgin/etc subscriptions. I have not missed the Premier League one bit. Never watch European football and hate all these nonsensical friendlies England have. Miss going to the Boro but that should be taken as a given. I bet we all miss that.

As for the £762 million penalty well surely its in the bank somewhere.:ROFLMAO::unsure::whistle:

If it was just about finishing the League cant they get the pools panel to sit. Oh wait no games for Sky then. Or maybe they could televise the pools panel sitting. They have made a massive thing about Champions League without having the live coverage.

Won't they all get issued fixed penalty notices by the police and be in bother with the Government? How can they run endless articles about keeping apart, not going to the park with your kids etc. then let two random sets of thirty or so people form different geographic locations get together for a kick about?

It can't happen currently, and shouldn't as it sends completely the wrong message to the populous who are meant to be staying at home to save lives.

If it costs the greedy ***** £750 million, so be it.
