Post your little known musical factoids

Jim Gilstrap and Lani Groves sang the first four lines on Stevie Wonders “ You are the Sunshine of my Life”

1. In the US in 1972, Steely Dan opened for Slade.

2. The strange piano noise in the intro to the Police song Roxanne was a serendipitous accident:

Sting: "I was just about to sing the first line of this celebrated song when I noticed there was an upright piano next to the microphone. I was feeling tired - I'd been up all night for some reason - so I just sort of sat down. I though the piano lid was closed, but it was open, so I wound up playing this incredible chord with my a$$. It was this atonal sort of cluster that went really nicely against the chords we were playing. We thought it was funny, so we left it in."

Monkee Michael Nesmith's mother invented Liquid Paper (typewriter correction fluid). I once won £80 quiz jackpot for knowing that.

In the summer of 1975, folk mega band Steeleye Span were dressed up as the Wombles on top of the pops to the track , Super Womble. Mike Batt was their producer at the time.

When John Squire left the Stone Roses, Slash offered to replace him but they turned him down.. preferring instead to fold the band.

Such an unbelievable waste of talent! At least Roger and Jason have released plenty of fantastic solo material.
Bit of a recluse possibly uncomfortable with fame. If you want Andy solo stuff the closest you get is his writing for puffy amiyumi.

He wrote pretty much all the album nice and his songs pop up on a few of the others.

One fact I never realised until recently is that a jellyfish song reached No1. Mcfly did a cover of baby's coming back.

Some fascinating insights in Craig Dorfman's book "Brighter Day" - which is now impossible to find but apparently it's going to be reissued imminently. Would definitely recommend it if you don't already know of it!

There's a bootleg of some post-Jellyfish demos of Andy's circulating online. Some of the songs have real potential but sadly they never saw the light of day in a finished format.

One fact that really surprised me is that comedian Morgana Robinson is the half sister of Brody Dalle from the Distillers. She only found out when her dad rang her out of the blue and said her sister was a rock star and was on the cover of a magazine.
