Post vaccination lockdown exit strategy

T
I’m getting help or at least I was until a few weeks ago. Long story

Point I was trying to make (obviously badly again) is that those high ranking officials know what damage they are doing to the mental health of millions of people by locking the country down. But there is never any acknowledgement.
The sad fact is, 1,600 dead bodies in 24 hours makes the news, millions sufferring from isolation, not so news worthy. The government are managing the optics, as best they can and mental health problems are, and always have been, way down their list of priorities. It doesn't help you AET but where we are is through the actions of an uncaring government, but that doesn't mean no one cares mate.

The only significant unknown which could disrupt that plan are further mutations
That is the fly in the ointment. It ill behoves me to defend this Government but I can understand their reluctance to put out dates. There are too many unknowns. Also they are gambling on the split vaccine dose strategy working. So there is that. I would expect that statisticians and mathematicians are crunching the numbers to make sure we strategise the correct timing of relaxing the restrictions because that will depend on many factors not just the vaccination program.

I think we're close. I know we are still seeing high demand on the NHS but with vaccinations and sensible restrictions on movement that will start to come down.

There is hope. "Normal", proper normal will not be for a while and don't expect that we will not see restrictions re-imposed from time to time, I think that is inevitable.
if the government keep lockdowns on the table
You know how the virus spreads, if for example, we get another aggressive mutation before vaccine cover is sufficient we will get another lockdown (assuming we have come out of this one!)

Be safe everyone.

The government will open stuff up, probably too soon, and then go back into restrictions. I didn't model this, just a guess based on past performance.

I think Mutley is right in that there will be a loosening and tightening of restrictions over the coming 12 months, and hopefully by next winter we will be back to minor restrictions, masks, social distancing etc as a precaution only.

They're going to have to remove restrictions to allow people to start forming relationships and having sex again, to ensure the future of the species. The government should pay everyone £20 a shag to encourage this.

Another lockdown after this one will be incredibly hard to justify.

“I’m simply pointing out that anecdotes don’t really tell the whole story”

But you did exactly that, base your opinion on what you've seen in your vicinity.
I did, and I don't expect anyone to take my own word as gospel. But I was just pointing out what 'a handful' constitutes to me, since he asked. "3 per day" or whatever means nothing if proportions are not considered. 20 per day, out of 40, fine, is clearly more than 'a handful'. If someone sees someone not wearing a mask every single day of his life, it means nothing if he sees 1000 people a day. I've acknowledged there will always be a handful of rule breakers and it is just naive to expect 100% of people to comply 100% of the time.

Or maybe the evil plan is to stop us commoners breeding. They need some fodder for wars, buy amazon tat and dig their moats, but the rest of us are surplus and don't really provide any useful function in society.

Covid will become endemic in society, it's what level of deaths we are comfortable with. Are we still going to be reporting in the media when there are infections in the 100's and deaths in single figures? One of the questions on Hancocks press conference was about if the target for 12 million was reached by mid February you could extrapolate that on and by Summer all adults would be vaccinated. Hancock himself said that he had booked to go to Cornwall in the Summer Holidays.

It’s getting to everyone. I was in the midst of a row between two people at work last week. Two sane rational people who I have worked with for 20 odd years and have never known to have a cross word or lose it. Over some utter triviality. Would never have happened if we weren’t all in this mess.

That is something I think we can all agree with. We are not living at the moment we are surviving.
