Police to be supported by the military

Unfortunately it needs to happen - it's the only way people will 'take it seriously' in my opinion

Get a few machine guns on display patrolling if needed, the wearing of masks and social distancing will soon happen

I'm glad I'm now outside. Feck walking around in uniform telling folk to put a mask on and being told 'f*ck off' 😕

It's really not a military issue. Its a social issue and educating doyles👍

Its more than a social issue. Trust plays a huge part and, for many many reasons, that has gone
 
Just a thought, perhaps the police wouldn't need the support of the armed forces if they were bigger in number and hadn't been criminally depleted during the course of this governments tenure?

You see, if there were 20,000 or so more police officers they could very likely have a far greater presence on the streets, offer g friendly advice and if necessary stern words and fines to idiots that think they're above the law.

However, once they started stripping the police force to the bone without any consideration for the consequences they got us into this position. Higher crime, no deterrents to criminals and being far, far too short in numbers when a global crisis like this emerges.

Just another huge failure of this government to add to the already long list.
 
Troops would not be needed had the Tories not decimated the entire public services including the police force. We police by consent, that does not sit well with military training from my understanding (there will be people on here who can hopefully correct me if I am mistaken). Whilst I have no issue as things stand with troops helping out where needed, do the powers exist for the military to arrest people, or will their role be to provide advice, help people on their way home and maybe detain and await police to arrest where needs be. This could go drastically wrong on occasion. It will be interesting to find out what the militarys role will be. I can imagine some troops involved not being totally comfortable
 
I don’t think they would be carrying arms do you?.
If they had to be brought in as we have seen in the past.
I assume it would be in a role of showing the uniform as a means of authority.
I would put 3 soldiers to 1 bobby in a car.
See how the hoodies like getting chased down a dark alley then.
