Police to be supported by the military

They could be.... in a few months time
Or people could very soon be dropping from other viruses and infections because they cant get a hospital bed due to the volume of people laid in beds with tubes inserted into their throats trying to keep them alive.

Thing is, if they asked.

“Who goes there, friend or foe”.

How would they know with their masks on ?.

they would have to take their masks off........
Then they nick em for not wearing one.

I’ll start the car !

Just a thought, perhaps the police wouldn't need the support of the armed forces if they were bigger in number and hadn't been criminally depleted during the course of this governments tenure?

You see, if there were 20,000 or so more police officers they could very likely have a far greater presence on the streets, offer g friendly advice and if necessary stern words and fines to idiots that think they're above the law.

However, once they started stripping the police force to the bone without any consideration for the consequences they got us into this position. Higher crime, no deterrents to criminals and being far, far too short in numbers when a global crisis like this emerges.

Just another huge failure of this government to add to the already long list.
I think the numbers is part of it but the sheer lack of respect that people have for law enforcement is staggering so yes numbers are needed but I don’t think it would solve the problem. Personally I like the idea of the army supporting the police as I think young lads would be a lot less mouthy to soldiers.

Unfortunately it needs to happen - it's the only way people will 'take it seriously' in my opinion

Get a few machine guns on display patrolling if needed, the wearing of masks and social distancing will soon happen

You seriously think the military would open fire on the citizens of its own country in the UK?

🤔

Kids don't give a toss about police rocking up in riot vans they just run off.

I never said they would 'open fire'..... it was merely intended to be a signal that this is a serious situation

Very true... that's why we need to take the virus more seriously.... get the number of infections down, so our hospitals can concentrate on thousands of people who need treatment

I'd go further and give the orders to shoot on sight anyone who isn't wearing a mask or social distancing.

Having seen first hand how young marines act when given a bit of authority in public, this is the last thing I want to see....

They're trained for battlefields or providing logistic support but they are not police and it would lead to a lot of issues...

Use them to back fill spaces to allow more front line coppers but keep them off the streets...
