Why is Policing minister Kit Malthouse and the met coming with these bizarre comments goat

People stopped by a lone plain-clothes officer should challenge their legitimacy, the Met Police says.

and

the Met said it was "entirely reasonable" to demand an officer's identity and intentions.

He wasn’t a bogus officer or a trickster pretending to be a policeman so why are they ( and the family lawyer alluded to this yesterday) driving this narrative and there seems to be a policy of distancing the police from this when they simply can’t do that.

he was an active policeman his warrant card was real.

I find today’s comments sickening to be honest

I agree that this is abdicating responsability. What they should be doing is announcing a comprehensive review in which the victims family is a part of and can see for themselves that their little girl didn't die in vain.

This is a sickening disregard for the family in the worst time they will ever experience.

They need understanding and assurances not empty platitudes and advice, that is quite frankly, sickening in its disregard for responsability and oversight.

What checks and balances are in place? How can they be improved? Inviting the family into the process makes it crystal clear that the process is transparent which is probably the reason its not happening.

Anybody who has encountered police officers as an away football fan will of course confirm that all officers will gladly put them through to a control room via radio and fully explain the legitimacy of their overly calm and courteous manner.

I got bit by a police horse once. Evil b****d.

The comments show there are severe problems at an institutional level. It needs more than an inquiry or an investigation it needs root and branch reform. If Cressida d*ck is unable or unwilling to do that, then she needs removing.

I see similar idiotic and out of touch comments have also been made by the dunce who is the North Yorkshire commissioner.

Unsurprisingly he's a Tory too. Also unsurprisingly on the BBC article about him there's no mention of his party affiliation.

The fact is that the MPS wasn't sophisticated enough to join the dots that suggested there was a pattern of behaviour with Couzens that would raise concerns.

I'm not sure anyone could have predicted the tragic conclusion to his behaviour, but there were some warning signs that were clearly missed.
