Play offs still on?

Had a few beers now but looking good again, confidence is back reckon play offs is on again, with Chuba leading the line with Forss and the rest of team much tighter at the back and midfield :)
It’s a crazy league as I’ve been saying for weeks 3 wins shoots you right up there.

Last week
4 pts seperated 22 to 12.

I'd say no, but there's no harm in daring to dream.

We've got to win more than one game in a row first, 20 matches in now and we've yet to manage that.

It will have helped us last night by just how wiped out Blackpool were by injuries, illness and suspensions.
Norwich will be a much tougher prospect, but if we manage a win against them...

Confidence was shot about 4-5 weeks ago, I would be happy just staying in the division now, however if we can play like that most weeks regardless of the opposition I think we may be there or there abouts. You can see the smiles returning to their faces it was not a happy camp, plus the emergence of young Hackney and a rejuvenated Chuba so happy for him personally. UTB

Last night was very good wasn't it.. I do take stock of who we were playing though (and who we've beaten in the last month) which prevents me from getting carried away. They were absolutely rotten, their squad is decimated, and we won't play like that every week. We've got Championship players, they're inconsistent.

Small steps. Much much better than 2 months ago. Don't want to build up Carrick or the players (especially young ones) for them to be shot down when we inevitably turn in a stinker.

Top half finish after the start we've had would be a solid base for Carrick.

Playoffs isn't at all likely this season. We would need a really, really good run to get to touching distance and then would need a really, really good run after that to stay there. There's more likely to be a regression to the mean. We're way too far back for promotion to be likely. It's not impossible but it's extremely unlikely.

We need 51 points from our remaining 26 games to match last season's 6th placed team which is nearly 2 points per game. That's the form needed to win the league and we are not a league winning calibre team.
normally id agree with you, but i think they way the championship is playing out this season it will be one of those seasons where a low total will sneak you 6th place. There aren't any teams smashing it and there also aren't any teams miles away at the bottom. I still think its very unlikely but the ppg ave will be different.

Blackpool weren’t poorvthats the championship look at hull etc it’s full of poor and average sides.

This season is more important than last season. 6th place isn't going to have 2 points per game this year. QPR are currently 6th and with 31 points from 20 games, a shade over 1.5 points per game. They themselves would have to massively increase their form and ppg to reach 2 ppg over a season. They are currently on course for 71 points.

To reach 71 points we would need 47 points from 26 games. So maybe 14 wins 5 draws and 7 defeats. Possible, but not probable at the moment. Although I think with teams form all over it might be as low as 67 points for play offs. Like I said earlier, lets see where we sit on Jan 1st if we have narrowed the gap to 6th even by a couple of points, then it won't be time to throw in the towel.

I know all teams could probably say this and if my auntie had bollox she'd be me uncle, BUT, the points we've thrown away this season have been criminal. Just off the top of my head, Stoke (A) Watford (A) Bristol City (H) - two games we totally dominated and should have won and a game we should have drawn if muniz didnt try and lob the keeper from 60 yards!!!!!!!!! That would have us with 5 extra points and 2pts from the play-offs

You're normally looking at around 75 points to get into 6th place. 51 points from 26 games then. Not impossible but it requires us to go along at 2 points a game for the rest of the season, which is top-2 form and the likelihood of us managing that is pretty low. That said, sometimes you can creep into 6th on around 70 points. If everything goes our way we have a chance of ending the season on 70 points. Personally, I think that 40 points from the next 26 games (64 points at the end of the season) is a respectable turn around for the rest of the season and gives us something to build on next season.

Same low ball totals for 6th place:

Swansea 70 points 19/20
Leicester 68 points 12/13
Blackpool 70 points (and promoted) 09/10
Watford 70 points 07/08

Need to win just over half our games, not likely

I didn't say 6th place would be 2 ppg. I said we need 2 ppg for the rest of the season to get 75 points. I.e. we need to be the best team in the league for the rest of the season.

71 points would have only made the playoffs once in the last 8 seasons so it's unlikely, but not impossible that 6th place will be that low. Even that requires us to get 1.81 ppg for the rest of the season, which would equate to 83 over a full season. We're just not an 83 point team. We are probably a 71 point team but we're starting 7 points behind what we would have needed to have been from game 1. If we play to the standard of the 6th best team in the league for the rest of the year we will end up on about 64 points which will be a decent 2nd half of the season and leave us somewhere between 7th and 12th.

I am not bothered this season tbh - I just want to see the team gradually improve and strengthen ready for next season - then walk away with the league.

It's nice to dream but I'll be satisfied with a midtable finish this season, as long as we get to the end of the season feeling as though the team has an identity, and something to build on.

We've played two poor sides these last two games and come away with four points. Not trying to put a dampner on things, as it was a good performance last night and we could take some positives out of the Bristol City game, but some much tougher challenges to come, starting this Saturday away at Norwich.
