Pidcock beats Van De Poel

I thought this was the start to a joke Finny I am clearly out of the loop when it comes to push bike racing.

Watched it live and as Mathieu acknowledged after the race, Pidcock was strongest on the day. A great ride from Tom. Mathieu won on the saturday and perhaps overdid it on his first weekend back in cross. In contrast Tom was only 20th on his first race back, so without taking anything away from his win it has to be put in perspective. I'm looking forward to Namur next weekend when we'll have Wout van Aert (he was 3rd in his first race back) taking on Tom and Mathieu for the first time this season, and not forgetting the European Champion Iserbyt who has been winning most races before the top cross/roadmen came back.

Amazingly Tom is only a little lad but has been tipped for greatness for some time as he has come through the junior ranks. It will be interesting to see what happens next season

I agree, it’s been pretty clear for a few years now that Tom’s got everything he needs to be a success at whatever discipline he chooses. Being a junior World Champion is no guarantee of success, but to do it in cyclo-cross, on the road and in the time-trial tells you he’s an exceptional talent.

I think he still loves cyclo-cross and will want to add the Elite World title to his palmarés after getting silver at his first attempt - but there’s the small matter of Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert in his way.

Like you I personally can’t wait to see how he develops on the road with Ineos and would love to see him one day win Paris-Roubaix which he won as a junior. The GTs can wait for me.
