Phil Foden's new Gazza hairstyle

1992 Lee Sharpe, David Platt, Paul Merson, Matt Le Tissier... we had some good English players knocking around. We just seemed to fill the England squad with absolute todds
If we'd just hung on for a draw v Sweden we've have gone through to the semis and faced a Netherlands side that eventually lost to a Denmark side we'd already drawn with.

Fine margins with that old 8 team format. Do I not like that.

Yeah, sorry! tournament. not tournaments!

Those injuries during late spurs career pretty much killed him. That cruciate in the final was awful. It really did affect him.

He never reached those heights of Italia 90 at Euro96.
He'd have been a world record transfer if not for that tackle on Charles. The fact Lazio still coughed up a big 7 figure sum in those days is still a bit baffling. Club would never do that now if a player was that crocked.

Drew with Denmark with no Paul Gascoigne of course but I'm not sure who you leave out of the starting line up for him though...

GK Chris Woods
RB Keith Curle
CB Martin Keown
CB Des Walker
LB Stuart Pearce
RM Trevor Steven
CM David Platt
CM Carlton Palmer
LM Paul Merson
CF Gary Lineker (c)
CF Alan Smith

Ha well a midfield combo of Platt/Gazza may have left us exposed....

Comical at best? Give over.
Gazza was alongside the world's best in his prime
the thing is.. it's all about medals, appearances, games played, games won. no point saying that gazza could have been the greatest ever.. because he wasn't. he was as good as he could have been given his temperament and attitude etc.

Frank Lampard was better than Gazza. Did he smash his knee in being a doyle? Did he duck out of taking a penna at the world cup? Did he wear a pair of plastic t*ts and make a knob of himself?

Steven Gerrard was better than Gazza too, David Beckham too.

How would he have faired in the same era? I don't think Paul Gascoigne would have gotten much further than the academy level tbh.

Look no further than Ravel Morrison

INFACT stick Ravel Morrison into 1985 and he has a better career than Paul Gascoigne imo

Believe it or not, people in there 20s can take a look at old footage. Have you not heard of Bobby Charlton then? Bobby Moore? Not ringing a bell?
It’s a lot easier too than it was back in my day when we were lucky if we got one live game a week! These kids have grown up YouTube and social media and don’t know anything different.

To be fair to Gazza, if you seen his interview with Ally McCoist the other day, he said he didn’t take a penalty because “his head wasn’t right“. He genuinely believed that his career had peaked and it was over at 23. Obviously in hindsight he wishes he had taken one.

The only person with anything like a bobby Charlton these days is Prince william. Most blokes are sensible enough to shave off receding hair thankfully I still have enough to play with
I feel for William. I’m sure he’d love a number 1 all over, as would Kate, but as the future king he needs to keep it sensible. He should just get a weave and be done with it.

I mean.. putting all that work in not to take a penalty and be a hero. Total waste. His career had probably peaked at 23

there's no shame in that.. especially when the peak is amongst the top players in the world.

look at Michael Owen, he probably peaked around that age.. maybe before

Jude Bellingham 17 - Michael Owen in 1998
Bukayo Saka 19 - Wayne Rooney 2004
Phil Foden 21 - Paul Gascoigne 1988
Jadon Sancho 21 - Neymar 2014
Mason Mount 22 - Steven Gerrard 2002
Marcus Rashford 23 - Ronaldo 2008
Jack Grealish 25 - Frank Lampard 2004
Raheem Sterling 26 - David Beckham 2002
Harry Kane 27 - Gary Lineker 1986

It's just a matter of time..
