Phil Foden's new Gazza hairstyle

Believe it or not, people in there 20s can take a look at old footage. Have you not heard of Bobby Charlton then? Bobby Moore? Not ringing a bell?

I am sure some 20 year olds look at old footage, but I am also sure that some are as think as mince and totally self absorbed in their own importance.

Wayne Rooney could have rocked a Bobby Charlton but instead went for an elaborate Shatner type affair.
The only person with anything like a bobby Charlton these days is Prince william. Most blokes are sensible enough to shave off receding hair thankfully I still have enough to play with

Euro96 Gazza was a shadow of the player he was in 1990-91.

If he'd not f'ed his knee we would've won Euro92 & World Cup 94 and Graham Taylor would've been the greatest England manager ever.
I was just about to write the same. He was on the decline in '96. He scored that great goal in 96, and contributed in the Holland game, but he was nothing like the level of Italia 90.
I found the controversy around his omission in 98 ludicrous, he was nowhere near the level required at that time.

Yeah but we took Rob Lee...

Matt Le Tissier didn't get as much England game time as I thought he deserved.
Arguably should have gone instead of Gazza.

Hoddle gets a lot of plaudits about his 'philosophy' (wing backs) but other than Scholes we didn't have a lot of flair. Batty and Ince together wasn't very adventurous either.

There was some sort of personal falling out with Le Tiss and Hoddle.. something to do with when he was Chelsea manager and something to do with Hoddle showing off in training?

Ridiculous

he’s a professional footballer in his 20’s that is in love with the game, by all accounts.

You seriously think a young English pro has never heard of Gazza or seen highlights?

its like saying young players in the 90’s had no idea who George Best was.
Heard Hamilton interviewed a couple of weeks ago and he didn’t seem to know about Ascari ending up in the water at the Monaco GP the week before he was killed. Even a low level GP fan would’ve seen footage of him swimming back to the pits 😁

3-4-3 was very continental back in 1998 as I recall.

I did think that Terry Venebles was by far the better manager tbh

Yeah he talks about it on Quickly Kevin podcast. I think he claims that Hoddle didn't like the comparisons and wanted to prove he was still the best player or whatever. Le Tiss says he was tactically astute but a terrible man manager.

I agree with this. By Euro 96 his standard had dropped below his best. That goal at Euro96 always seems to be the catalyst of Gazza having his best tournament, when in fact he was much better in those earlier tournaments.

What do you mean? Italia 90 was undisputedly his best tournament. And that was the only one he played in before Euro 96.

1992 Lee Sharpe, David Platt, Paul Merson, Matt Le Tissier... we had some good English players knocking around. We just seemed to fill the England squad with absolute todds

Yeah, sorry! tournament. not tournaments!

Those injuries during late spurs career pretty much killed him. That cruciate in the final was awful. It really did affect him.

He never reached those heights of Italia 90 at Euro96.
