Petition to have the Ref sacked

I'd certainly be submitting an official complaint and I'd be including in it the fact there appears to be no remorse from the player or his manager, no acceptance that it was dangerous or reckless and that Blackburn's view seems to be that as it's a "mans game" going for the ball at head height, studs up is acceptable.

How many times are you watching a match and a tackle which may or may not be intentional causes blood to be showing on a player? Then the referee - who has not shown a card at this point - leans over the injured player, sees the blood and immediately reaches for the red card. As if - "I've seen the proof". That is what he could have done yesterday. There was never the slightest doubt that Fry's injury was caused by anything boot an illegally high boot.

Ironically if Blackburn take the opinion ‘its a man game’ .... the challenge by their defender was one of a coward. Clearly didn’t fancy putting his head in there so went with the studs where brave/honest players put their heads. F@nny.

The only thing I can think of to explain it, though it doesn't excuse it, is that the referee thought the damage was from a clash of heads between him and the other defender leaping for the ball.

The fact you can actually see the outline of the boot with the wounds, and that he was 100% told what happened should make that immaterial though.

Reading this is depressing. Yes, the ref made a mistake but if he didn't see the incident, and the linesman didn't see it, then that's that. Refs can't assume things because someone was injured.

How many of you can honestly say that you have never made a mistake? Football is a contact sport. Unless you want the players to wear helmets and armour then cuts happen.

All this hysterical ranting is just a pathetic response to a world where accidents happen. Get over it and move on. You aren't from Liverpool.

Football fans, managers, pundits and the authorities are reaping what they have sown for the last 20 years with referees.

Wall to wall coverage of super slow motion replays to find fault with every mistake, refs hammered every week by pundits, managers and fans and a general lack of respect towards officials from the top downwards and this is where we end up.

I know the standard is bad but is anyone surprised? What young person would train to be a referee nowadays? Would you recommend your kid to start refereeing a bunch of thugs on a Sunday morning where there are getting threatened and intimidated for about £20. And don't tell me this doesn't happen, I've played Sunday league for years and seen it.

If a young ref then makes his way to the top then they are treated with total disrespect by players and managers which is just accepted.

Maybe sort out the 90 minutes of cheating that happens every week first and then we'll move onto the refs.

‘Get over it and move on’ - a modern expression which basically means you let somebody get away with something they shouldn’t get away with.

Although VAR is everyone’s cup of tea, it has to be brought in to the championship for this alone. There is simply too much at stake in this division and it will help with incidents like this.

No, it means that something bad happened but instead of wringing your hands and drowning in self pity, you pick yourself up and get on with it.

Is the British justice system aware of this?? We could save an awful lot of time and effort on things like court cases if everyone just picked themselves up and got on with it instead of seeking punishment for wrongdoing.

Why was there a crime committed yesterday?

I don't believe I said that there was. But there was certainly a breach of the rules of football, compounded by the officials' demonstrable failure to apply said rules, and you appear to think that "moving on" is preferable to punishing those at fault, so I was simply applying your theory in a similar context. Yes, I drove too fast and crashed into your car, and the police drove past and did nothing, but let's move on.

If retrospective punishment is given to the Blackburn player then fair enough, even if I don't think it will happen.

However 'the moving on' comment was (I think) a reference to our fans starting a petition to have the referee sacked. This is totally ludicrous and I agree that we should 'move on'. The ref made an honest mistake, we can't get a penalty out of it now so its time to put on our big boy pants and focus on the Rotherham game.

By the way, apologies for not realising that you weren't the same poster I'd previously replied to, hence my saying "your theory".
