RIP Peter.
A man of incredible energy and love for the Boro - served the fans for most of his life. Will be massively missed by all.

RIP, I remember Peter organised the trip to the 1980 Euros in Italy. Great memories of this trip. I think he took a PSV? License so he could help drive the coach.

Thats so sad, knocked me for 6, really has

Condolences to Peters family

I 1st met Peter a few years back at a former players reunion, we sat on the same table & his stories about following the Boro, starting the supporters club even organising the 1st football rail special away to Luton in 74, the players he knew well, even to talk to on a daily basis from that amazing team was mind blowing

He was instrumental in the late, great Willie Maddrens testimonial, he also helped a few of the players in the 70's with starting up their pensions

The last 73-74 reunion at the Riverside that big Jack attended he was on the committee, along with Jim Platt, & asked if I would write down my thoughts on that amazing season, which I did, it was published in the magazine

Now & again he would phone me & I'd listen to him for up to an hour

Great bloke, brilliant fan, who went out of his way to help others less fortunate than himself

Last time I spoke to him in person was at base camp when Peter & Rob organised an evening about the 1966 world cup

RIP Peter x

Very sad news. I was a steward on the League Liner to Luton. Last spoke to him before the last 73-74 reunion. He reminded me that for the Birmingham away cup game in the 70's he arrange 66 coaches from the supporters club.

Shocked to hear this news this morning. A big Boro fan and co founder of MSF. Peter had loads of great tails to tell of his time supporting the Boro.

Peter always wanted to help others less fortunate than himself. I was only with him last Saturday collecting for Middlesbrough Foodbank.

RIP Peter x

Sad to hear of the passing of Peter Hodgson.

Peter was very supportive of my work on Boro history and North Korea's link with Middlesbrough after the 1966 World Cup. He even made a trip over to Preston to attend my talk about Boro and North Korea and was kind enough to bring along some artefacts. Always enjoyed chatting with Peter and hearing his Boro memories. RIP

Hi there. re the post above, I'm his son, Jonathan (not his grandson) but yes, I do post here.

We are all devastated by this sudden loss. I appreciate seeing these posts and hearing anything about him from others who knew him is helpful in dealing with this shock.

We are trying to sort out the many many things he was involved with, as any of you who knew him will understand, he was always involved in organising so much, and with his amazing ability to know and remember things, he was the living key to all his work. Without him it is hard to know what projects we need to do anything for: for example we know that he was still involved in the statue for Big Jack, the charity game between past teams, MSF and a number of others current or recent... and that's just the Boro stuff.
If you were involved in any projects with him and we might have some info that is useful for you, or if you have anything you think we need or might want to know, please do get in touch. Post here, or message me, or email my gmail account (not sure if we can put emails in here, but it is a gmail.com account using the username I have on here in front of the @ sign. )We have already started to try to get hold of some people but any extra help would be great.

Thank you all

Jonathan Hodgson

Sorry for your loss. Take care.

Many, many condolences Jonathan to yourself and all the family. Peter has been a force of nature behind so many Boro projects over the years. Full of knowledge, experience, enthusiasm. So, many amazing stories to tell too. There are an awful lot of things that would never have got off the ground without Peter's guidance and encouragement. A real one off.

Hope you don't mind me bringing this post back to the top, but I was searching for some footage that was on here once, and I thought anyone who was on this thread might have a good chance of knowing: there was some footage posted from the 60s or 70s outside Ayresome, that I think my Dad may have been in if I remember correctly. Can anyone remember where it was, or do you have a copy, or anything about the thread to search for it please? I was hoping to get it before his funeral.
Can I also just post a notice if anyone needs to know , that his funeral will be on Tuesday the 19th July at 1pm, at the Crematorium in Stockton, in the Maplewood Chapel. Following this, there will be a reception/wake at the Riverside Stadium, in the Legends' Lounge . We invite all those who knew him to come and pay their respects, and ask you to please let anyone else who knew him know about it.
Finally, please let me know if you have any interesting stories, pictures or video that might be of interest. Anything gratefully received.
