That's a ball we don't seem to see much of nowadays - the deep curling pass along the line to a running winger. And, a first time cross as well!
We have sometimes had players on the right who were totally left footed, so they couldn't run onto a pass and cross it - they had to cut back inside to get it on their left footThat's a ball we don't seem to see much of nowadays - the deep curling pass along the line to a running winger. I have always thought Hamiltons injury and the decision to let Laws go were the reasons we couldn't turn things round at the end of the season. They had both been such huge influences over the previous 2 years and were badly missed. Glover exit was a bit weird, something behind the scenes?
That Sunderland goal led to one of the covers of fmttm that I remember the most, Davenport waving from the bus that he was driving through the Boro defence.Got to agree with that, Laws in particular, could never understand that. I always thought Dav was a decent bloke, but didn't live up to the hype. Remember the first game back in Div 2 against Wolves, think that was the first time I saw him play with a smile on his face. Remember him putting one past us at Roker, after the celebration with his team mates, he gave us a cheeky little fist pump and a look that was part apology and part "look I can score"!
Yep, agree with all thatAnother sign of a bygone age: when we beat Man U 1-0, they had played the day before.
Not 3 days or 2 days before: 24 hours before, and beaten Liverpool 3-1.
Can't imagine that happening now. The schedule, or Man U beating Liverpool.
As for Davenport, he was a disaster. More than the low return for high fee, one of our players (Pally or Mogga I think) later said his signing was the start of the end of the spirit that had taken us so far.
I remember Gary Hamilton playing an absolute blinder that day. I think Manchester United played Liverpool the day before?Scored his first v Man Utd, seems like yesterday.
I remember us taunting them that they would never win the league - could argue we were right as they never added to their football league titles. Lets hope at some point they get the chance, just as we did in 1995.I remember Gary Hamilton playing an absolute blinder that day. I think Manchester United played Liverpool the day before?
