Pele at Wembley to see Juninho.

Juninho was the first Brazilian to play in an FA Cup final and two special guests came to see him one was Zico and the other was Pele.

I remember seeing him stood on the balcony holding up a boro scarf with zico stood next to him.

I always wondered if anyone has that picture.

It’s something I will never forget.

He invited both to come.

Juninho, the Brazilian who has done so much to get Middlesbrough to the FA Cup final, hopes to be watched at Wembley by two illustrious compatriots.

"Zico and Pele were great heroes for me and I want to invite them to come and watch me in the Cup final if it's possible," he said. "It would make it even more special for me to walk out at Wembley knowing they were there. It would be wonderful for me and also for Emerson."

And they did

I was listening to something today about Pele where they talked about how, before 1970, #10 was really just a number.

Slightly off subject, but isn’t it weird how #7, #9 and #10 are sort of revered as numbers at different clubs/countries (in the pre-squad number world), but no one has cared about #8 and #11 anywhere near as much.

Obviously that’s just taking into consideration the inside/outside forwards system. Half backs and full backs numbers also not seen as anywhere near significant.

Did you know who Pele sat next to during the match (other than Zico)?

Pele said “Coxy I’m pleased you stuck one on Ravanelli, but couldn’t you have just waited til after the cup final? Pass us some more of that delicious chicken parmigiana will you mate?”

Juninho was just something special wasn't he? In just every aspect.
I only got to witness him his 3rd time around but what a player he still was. Will never forget his excitement about playing in Europe for us, I have a programme at my parents house, him holding his passport ready for Europe. Then Mcclaren robbed him of the opportunity, surplus to requirements and off to Celtic you go. I share The Little Fellas opinion that Mcclaren was probably jealous how much Juninho meant to us yet Mcclaren didn't despite his success.
Went right off Mcclaren after that, despite his success.
Was lucky to see him in his final friendly for us and its always amazing when he comes back to visit
If we make it to the Play Off final our legends in attendance are somewhat more legendary than anything or any of our rivals can boast to have

He certainly was

I was lucky to almost see it all from his kick about with Robbo on the day he signed right through the heart break at elland road. It was an incredible ride.

But yes he was unique I still say he wasn’t given the status among the national press that his talent deserved.
