Payero

If he can’t get a chance in a game like tonight with almost our entire MF taken out of the contest with them all on one booking away from an early bath then you have to seriously question when will he get that chance.

Don’t think he fancies him.

looking increasingly likely. I think Wilder is and will be brilliant for us, but think he's missing a trick with this. From the little we've seen Payero has something different and is probably technically better than any of the other three. Id rather have seen him on than 4 strikers to be honest. You need to provide service.

I suspect its a language issue as much as anything else. Wilder seems very particular about players following instructions (bit like Karanka in that respect, minus the sulking) and maybe feels he cant get those messages across well enough to Payero.

Fair point, but he does have Leo to help get those messages across.

I'm sure I read from Sheff Utd fans when Wilder first came that he favours British lads over foreign imports, but surely if you put the work in then I would think Wilder would pick you.

To be honest I'm not sure if Wilder doesn't fancy him or if he's just been unlucky with niggling injuries and catching COVID at a time when our midfield three have generally been excellent. I hope he gets an opportunity as he's shown flashes in his brief cameos so far and he appears to offer something a little different.

I think the form of the others has definitely played a part like. He has been unlucky too as you say.

Definitely something there. Has a similar number of goals and assists as Tav from a fraction of the time on the pitch.

I do think there's something in this - the players seemed incredibly well drilled at the moment and this has happened in a short space of time. Must be more difficult to pick this up in a second/non-native language - even with translation? I know I'd be knackered!

That said we were crying out for someone who could put a foot on it in the middle last night with enough technique to avoid their press.

What is this form of others? Frankly, last night, midfield looked weak, insipid, devoid of ideas and second best . All of them could have been replaced. Whilst I have been loathe to criticise Tav he increasingly is looking like a luxury player with no end product nine times out of ten. Howson simply gets out run and out muscled. Crookes - his performance often gets forgiven for the goals he gets.

So if Payero can’t get a look in under this scenario frankly he never will. Much to our loss.

For me Tav and Crooks, the two positions you would think Payero would play in, are so good defensively in what are essentially attacking midfield roles that playing anyone else there massively disrupts the balance of the team. Like others have said I would have preferred him maybe to come on last night instead of a 4th striker.

Wouldn't be surprised if he is quietly shipped off on loan to a more exotic land. Or Hartlepool.

I dont think it was the game to bring him on last night. It was fast and furious with tackles flying in and bookings handed out left right and centre. He has bookings to his name already from his limited time on pitch. That said we had no other midfield options on bench(unless Balogan plays there) and it was crying out for someone who could actually control and pass a ball. Our midfield tonight was terrible.

I would be worried if he does not get a look in on Saturday.

dont think he will ever go on loan due to the language issue .... settling into the area is important so dont think this will be compromised

He should be loaned out to help get him up to speed ahead of next season hes not learning anything sitting on our bench. Not hartlepool though, maybe a Preston, Blackpool, Hull though.

Depends on if Wilder sees him being part of his first team squad, Once Mcgree back and if rumours of Hendrick are accurate then he'll be lucky to make the subs bench as things stand.
