I think a few people are getting carried away. Payero’s performance last night was an improvement but it was wasn’t top class. He had some lovely spells, nice touches but he has the talent to do so much more.
Tav's versatility counting against him? Mind you with McNair, Howson and Crooks we have several players who can play in different positions. Total football Warnock style!I think Tavernier is trying to hard to get himself out of a rut of bad form. He knows he is better than he has shown recently. It's not all his fault though, he's played in about 5 different positions in the last ten games, and none of them his favoured number 8
He does, he can clearly play and looks a real find, but he's still not quite worked out the cut and thrust of the ChampionshipPAyero has got the best passing success at the club 84% he just needs to start to get involved a little more, it'll come as he learns to read the english game better
TavernIer was correct to shoot on all those occasions apart from the one where the keeper saved at the near post. I can also understand why he ended up shooting on that occasion as the forwards were really static Don't get me wrong he didn't have a great game but he still worked off the ball for the team. I'm not sure how you can praise Watmore and comment on Tav's technique when Watmore missed a sitter from a few yardsWatmore, Sporar and Payero look to be playing for each other in a professional manner towards the best option for a goal. Tavernier however looks to be all about himself, appalling efforts at goal and his technique was terrible. It’s coming together with the quality in the squad. Management however need to further Implement the team dynamic.
He is trying to model himself on Salah (Tav that is). I say trying, because as much as I like him, he might need to reassess the player he models himself on. I always thought I was the next Souness, however reality is kicking in as I approach 60!Payero is looking good, I just wish Tav would look up more and stop being so selfish when he's cutting in.
Bunny comment was about Watmore, it definitely doesn't apply to Payero at the moment.Exactly right. He was decent but nothing more than that. I don't really understand the Energiser bunny comment either. I actually thought the opposite i.e. that he looked quite leggy at times and didn't make runs when he really ought to have done - both offensively and defensively. It was much better but not the huge stride forward that it seems to be being portrayed as.
I bet Watmore wishes he hadn't more than him.Thought he was going to slot it past the keeper himself but if course the ball was to square it to Watmore...bet he wished he hadn't
There was a 10 minute spell 75-85 mins when he looked like he was blowing out of his ars.e. He hid a bit, then regrouped for the last few minutes. Thought he would be subbed, but Warnock must have more faith in him than Silky.Exactly right. He was decent but nothing more than that. I don't really understand the Energiser bunny comment either. He was waving frantically up at the west stand on sat before kick off and I read his partner had joined him so I think he’s starting to settle now.Watching Payero last night, the only thing that concerns me he just doesnt look happy, maybe its me looking at it that way, or he's going to give that impression whoever he plays for, a new country, culture, its a big change for a young lad here on his own, he couldnt be any further from his family, his body language, just the way he stands, shoulders drooped.
He doesn't play that way mind
The energiser bunny was a reference to watmore not PayeroExactly right. He was decent but nothing more than that. I don't really understand the Energiser bunny comment either. That makes more sense! The energiser bunny was a reference to watmore not Payero
Still difficult to reconcile a 5m fee for an unknown who was clearly nowhere near ready to play in the Championship. 1 or 2 million ok but 5 million ?? I think most expected a bit more straight from the off. except Adi_Dem of course who knows more about football than most other things.I think a few people are getting carried away. It’s all relative, most transfers are a gamble.. I’m guessing this one is pretty low risk due to the lads age and his athleticism.Still difficult to reconcile a 5m fee for an unknown who was clearly nowhere near ready to play in the Championship. 1 or 2 million ok but 5 million ?? £7m for George Saville at 25yo
or
£5m for Martin Payero at 22yo
I think he’ll find his feet and be a canny player for us.
