Payero starts for udinese

Really strange signing as he clearly did not want to be in England.

Maybe a bit bullied into it by his agent? You would have hoped we might pick up on the fact that he was so reluctant to join us when we spoke to him directly, which I assume we did?

The whole thing was just very odd.

I doubt we ended up paying anything like 7m euro let alone pounds.

I think there are multiple issues.

I heard he broke with his long term partner not long after moving - he didn't fit well with the coach at the time. When he first started to play well he got injured.

Once you have a bad start - it can effect you settling.

It's not as simple as it was wrong - it was a risk and several things happened to stop it being successful. Could easily end up an international and it wouldn't be anyone's "fault"

Apologies - I forgot about signings, when we had parachute money.

Certainly not paid £7m since August 2018

Our recent big signings

Woodgate 2019/20 - £1.25m? - highest

Warnock 20/21 - £2.5m? for Chuba Akpom

Warnock summer 2021 - £3.75m for Payero ($5m) plus add ons

Wilder - Jan 2022 - £3m? for McGree

Wilder - 2022 Summer - £3m for Forss

Carrick - 2023 Jan - £2m? Barlaser

Carrick Summer 2023 - £4.3m for Lath

btw - Udinese lost 2-0 at home today

Can’t have been easy for him, he was here a couple of years….three different managers, didn’t speak the language, injured and made clear we were willing to sell him after a year.

Playing so well he was subbed off on the 63'd minute, whoscored rates his performance 6/10

Starting in Italy for a team in the relegation zone doesn't mean you are good.

3 Boro managers didn't fancy him.

Think that says it all. Simply not good enough. A waste of money whether it's 3mil or 6mil. I'd say a waste even at 1mil.

Yet people get at Crooks 😂

He didn't even stand out against 10 man Huddersfield in the cup. That was his big moment and he was as anonymous as ever. His heart clearly wasn't in it, probably because he couldn't handle the intensity of Championship football.
He couldn’t get near the physicality could he.. quick, intense, brutal and seemingly never ending. He’s looked after himself imo..
