It makes more financial and common sense to not personally fund a loss making business when that business has assets to relieve the liability itself
Football clubs aren't really an investment owners should expect to turn a profit from.
They are more of a billionaires hobby.
Its like owning a racehorse.

Like Indeed has just displayed, pretty much all the Championship clubs are losing money and they rely on their owners to fund them. If they all treat them like any other business there would be football clubs going under right across the country.

For everyone getting excited about this transfer; why?

I, like most l, have not seen him play. So what does he bring?

I watched him on YouTube last night but I don't feel that's a particular good gauge of ability!!

He won the award for Czech Republics best player in their league last season. Has played for his country and has champions league experience. With top stats and looks brilliant on YouTube

The business had £10m of net shareholder value in June 24. That better value could already be back to zero by now and will be underwater again at the end of next financial year.
There will be no assets left to relieve anything without funding beyond that. It becomes unsustainable again without injection of funds.
It is actually quite scary that in the second tier of what must be the most profitable footballing country so many clubs lose that scale of money. Our new model looks to be a financial necessity.
The key points are even if we make ongoing profit from sales (not guaranteeable) then we will still lose huge amounts of money requiring owner injection of funds.
If he stops doing that we will be in real trouble.
Self sustaining is not possible in this league.
Nobody has done that.

He's a current international for a respected national team, a flair player in a key position, best player in his league, good age, not too young to panic about being outside his country, but young enough to improve. It's definitely an exciting signing

If Hackney goes for 20 million plus add ons, Lath went for around 22 million, we got a couple of million with add ons with Spence and Rogers.
Jones went for around 3-4 million?

I don't know what's going on, but we certainly don't look like we are spending anything even remotely close to what we have brought in over the last 12 months?
Well if a business is making a loss, it won’t have all the funds available to re-invest

We've been here before sadly, who was that lad who ended up going to Wolves we were all convinced we were signing....

Racking my brains. 1997 I think, from Padova..?

Edit: I'm wrong. I'm thinking or Michele Padovano who went to Palace instead of us in 1997.

No idea.

The most notable "thought we were signing" players I can think of are
Diego Forlan (went to Man Ud)
Glen Helder (went to Arsenal)

It does feel like this lad is out of our League. Would imagine he would look for top division somewhere

Strand Larsen maybe, he went to Spain before coming to Wolves. Apparently Newcastle are interested in him now and tbf I thought we dodged a bullet at the time I was obviously way off :)

The fans shouldn't expect the chairman to put his own money in to maximise losses the club is allowed to make
No I get that, I replied to Duffman earlier in the thread about it...Gibson isn't going to maximise his leeway with the losses the club are allowed to make.

Didn't he go to Italy first? Then Celta Vigo, then Wolves?

Edit: no he didn't but he was linked with Bologna when we were after him
