Pavel Sulc.

After what happened with Monk (&Wilder) do you think he's daft enough to chuck his money at another new manager that he doesn't know. He would be stupid to do so, he will back him conservatively and will increase that backing over the 3 years if he hasn't been sacked. Don't forget this is a manager most of you didn't want.
There’s no point employing a manager and not backing him because you cant trust him

So, in summary, the idea of Gibson pocketing money from the sales of players is a Red Herring.

A more likley scenario is Gibson insisting player sales are used to make the Club self-sustaining not simply used for 100% re-investment in new player transfer fees
As in running the club responsibly, I agree 100% with what you’re saying. I wonder what some of our comrades on here want? Do they expect us to splurge money like there’s no tomorrow?
We will bring players in when we can. I’d rather we didn’t jeopardise our future.

I think the difference between the signings now and the signings of monk and (a certain extent wilder) is that Scott will be picking the signings and the head coach has to do his best with them. Gibson trusts Scott (I think) so he should be fine splurging on his signings if Scott deems them good enough.

It appears we are been very careful with the cash, trying to buy yellow sticker products. possibly decent quality that has been marked down a bit or brands that are up and coming.

Compare that with Wrexham who have spent around £16m in fees and probably added a net £15m to their wages bill

Done deals..

Dijksteel £2m <> Brittain £3.5m
Clarke £2.5m <> Jones £3m
Howson £5m <> Kante £2.5m

Rumoured..

Hackney <> Law McCabe
RVDB <> Alfie Gilchrist
Azaz <> Pavel Sulc
Latte Lath <> Danny Ings
Engel <> Samuel Silvera
Gilbert <> Ayman Kari*
Forss <> David Strelec
Barlaser <> William Milovanovic
Ayling <> Lewis Miller
Glover <> Marek Cervik
Lenihan <> George McCormack

*Ayman Kari is a total stretch.. currently a free agent at PSG, struggling to return from an ACL injury after a Jet Ski incident.. he was on loan at Lorient loan with an option/ obligation to buy.. they got promoted but he didn’t make the number of appearances needed. He returned to PSG overweight and unmotivated.. could be worth a gamble tho.. bit of the Duncan Watmore’s about him. We were linked with Caylan Vickers 20yo from Brighton early doors in the window.. he’s joined Barnsley on loan.. but might be one to revisit in January?

and one other?
Alex Bangura <> I would have thought there would be a lot more noise surrounding LWBs Josh Tymon seems like an obvious one to go for in terms of permanent transfers.. maybe my judgement is clouded. Internet talk about Samuel Iling-Junior making a return is interesting.. even talk of meeting with Aston Villa to re negotiate our sell on clause on Morgan Rogers to make it happen. My gut feeling on this given the radio silence suggests that we are maybe looking into bringing in somebody on loan?

Lino Sousa 20yo - Aston Villa
(25 appearances and 2 assists Bristol City)

Alex Murphy 21yo - Newcastle
(13 appearances and 1 goal with Bolton)

Luke Chambers 20yo - Liverpool
12 appearances 1 goal and 1 assist Wigan)

Josh Wilson-Esbrand 22yo <> Man City
(6 appearances and 1 goal with Stoke)

Calum Scanlon 20yo - Liverpool
(4 appearances and 1 goal with Millwall)

Samuel Illing Junior 21yo stands out with 32 appearances 3 goals and two assists.. 1 goal and two assists came in his 16 appearances with us.

Dael Fry to Ipswich? Yerjokinarnya!
Oliver Casey from Blackpool on standby just in case tho right?

Where has the Sulc talk come from other than on OneBoro? If they even for 10% of their ‘ITK’ rumours correct we’d have half of Europe playing for us by now.

Echo confirmed we were in for him.
Lots of so called "itk" rumours.
On X Wilson confirmed a high fee"forward" imminent once either RvdB or HH fee in (Rav done apparently)
Sulc capt'd his ex team on Wed, waving bye etc
Seen leaving Czech via plane
Rumours he's arriving here today

All conjecture, but there is a lot of it 🤞

I'd be excited by this one. Sounds highly rated but I'm probably just as keen for nostalgic reasons.

The kind of signing we might have made in the late 90s/early noughties. Full Czech international, always had a soft spot for them. Would have to dig out my Nedved shirt.
I will believe it when I see it.

What a player Nedved was by the way!

Another good name. Will sound good on the TV. Can see him being a star player.

Might jump the gun and order the new top of DHGate with his name on the back

Hopefully at some point he'll get an undeserved red card and walk off looking sad and dejected so the headline writers can fulfill the 'Incredible Sulc' we're all hoping for.

I've never heard of him, but the kind of signing to produce a movement in your loins.

Shirt with his name on is a good shout .....I'll get "Sulk" on the back of my son's top ......

I think we've lacked that kind of player since the days of Tomlin/Ramirez. Coventry had one with Hamer. Rodgers is showing signs he can develop into that kind of player but of course is still very raw. The kind of profile we should be looking for is seasoned pro from a lower top league/yo-yo team in Spain/Italy/Portugal/Brazil; the type who never quite got his big move or never quite broke into the first team when at a big club and has since been serving up quality year after year at Cremonese or Celta Vigo or somewhere. Someone not averse to a big UK payday now he's knocking on 30, and old enough not to miss his mum's pasta or whatever (but whose family appreciates the calm atmosphere and good primary schools of the North Yorks countryside - Mendieta MkII!)

That would be my instructions to the scouting department. Off you go, lads.

It seems clear that Gibson is looking to reduce his funding of the club.
After putting in over £250m since 1994 that is perhaps understandable - wealthy as he may have become.

But the truth is that without an owner prepared to "invest" in the way he has recently done (£146m plus of debt converted to equity in 2024, covering the losses since 09 relegation) then the club can not generate the revenue, even with profit from player transfers, to cover operating costs and amortise new signings. It can not afford a squad to be competitive.

In 23-24 season (the last season where all clubs have published) there was hardly a Championship club that did not lose money pre tax.

Coventry made £8.7m profit based on £23.7m profit on player sales (primarily Gyok)
Blackburn made £3.3m based on £23.6m profit on player sales. Having lost £38m over the previous 3 seasons.
Neither will repeat the PBT performance because assets like they had can only be sold once.
Everyone would like the golden model, but only Brentford have actually ever pulled it off and they couldn't have been smaller or have lower expectations.
Brighton started their approach in the PL with massive speculative investment by Bloom in the squad.

We made £17.1m profit from player sales that 23-24 year (Akpom & Rogers) and still lost £12.4m pre tax.

Bristol City made a £21.7m profit from player sales and still lost money pre tax.
Swansea made £10.5m profit from player sales and still lost £15.2m pre tax. They lost £35m the 3 prior seasons.
Hull made £8.3m profit from player sales and still lost £18.9m pre tax.

A look at the books of all the other Championship clubs makes scary reading, with little notable profit from player sales.
West Brom lost £33.9m, Stoke £25.9m, Millwall £19.1m, Preston £12.3m, Cardiff £11.3m, Sheff Wed £10.0m. None challenged seriously.
Millwall and Preston are particularly stark. They have each lost the same as Boro over the last 4 years, haven't generated transfer profit and yet are still here due to ownership support/investment.

The truth is that Profit from player sales is highly unpredictable and is not enough to sustain a clubs operating losses over a mid term.
For a club to be competitive it desperately needs Owner investment/funding. That is the stark reality in this horrible league.

If Gibson really is seeking to make the club self sufficient then there are zero examples of clubs who have done that and got promoted.
Luton lost £16m going up, Sunderland too, all the promoted PP clubs still lose money going up.

If he lolls about in the Championship and does not fund it then the club will begin to pile up debt again, eventually leading him to either fund or let it go bust.
Nobody will be interested in buying a floundering club that is eating itself in the Championship.
He will have absolutely no chance of recouping any of that £250m plus he has put in. He will have a Preston of a club sitting in catchment area that could easily operate at PL level.
If it continues we will eventually go down.

It may be that Bulkhaul are hurting a little, impacting the ability to fund MFC in the short term - we can't know that, but if Gibson is trying to make the club self sufficient then he is deluded.

It makes more financial and common sense to not personally fund a loss making business when that business has assets to relieve the liability itself

It is actually quite scary that in the second tier of what must be the most profitable footballing country so many clubs lose that scale of money. Our new model looks to be a financial necessity.

much better than my uncanny ability to sport a mostly injured U21 French defensive midfielder
