Patrick Roberts.

His golden era was at Celtic. The SPL is on a par with League 1. Nuff said.

He was average here, done nothing at Derby....ended up at the bottom (Sunderland). He will show a couple of flashes and go missing for 40+ games.

Bit injury prone too I seem to recall?

Good signing for them, showed enough last season to be worth the risk. Still think there is a good player in him if he can stay fit.
Shame or didn’t work out for him, looked like he would be a top player when he was at Celtic. Another victim of City being allowed to stockpile players

Scored a hugely important goal for us so I’m thankful for that. Not consistent enough and too lightweight for the championship.

Nailed on to score against us.

I think Roberts biggest issue was plating as part of a team, both with and without the ball.

Couldn't do it under NW, who's hardly the most tactically complex coach, but he does have a bit of talent for sure.

The world's full of players who have the talent but not the application to make the most of it.

There's always a risk former players play well or score against you.

If he does, it doesn't mean we were wrong to move on from him, does it?

We all know he can produce the occasional flash of magic, but we also know they were too few and far between to make keeping him worthwhile.

Fair play to Sunderland. The 4-prong forward line of Jack Clarke, Alex Pritchard, Patrick Roberts, and Ross Stewart was possibly the best forward line except Fulham and Bournemouth’s outside of the Premier League last season. They should have walked that league.

Roberts and Clarke would certainly have been good squad players for us.

I thought he was a reasonable Championship player, but for one reason or another it didn't happen in front of goal for him.

I was surprised when he dropped to Division 1.

Think it was the best thing for him for 6 months, if he had shown some form he would have ended up with another championship club even if Sunderland didn’t go up

It’s not exactly a bad front 4 for any championship side but certainly not a newly promoted one. I think they will have a decent season
