Pass and move and tempo

It Was almost backk to what we saw last year some of the switch play esp in mf was great to see. Moving the ball at speed and we seemed to have a new tactic - drilling crossed into the box on the deck rather than floating them and it worked a treat.

I used to create tactics imitate Carrick in the fm2010 game.
It's a lot of fun, but there's a downside that the left side's defense is quite leaky.
Sometimes I blame myself that I used to criticize Engel.
It's not easy to protect against counter attacks, if our defensive line has to push up high.

Thought our play in possession was much improved last night. Starting to see some of the patterns from last season.

Seems to be a real understanding developing between Barlaser and Hackney too, played them selves out of some tricky spots with nice one-touch stuff. If that continues it forms a cracking foundation for our attacking play.

Thought Greenwood looked good too. His movement isn't great so he struggles to find space to get involved but when he does it's clear he's got the ability to cause teams problems at this level.

Especially the last 15 mins they were tiring and our players grew in confidence.

But overall the second half was so much improved on the ball I thought.

It clicked when Cardiff lost their discipline and rigid structure. For much of the game we struggled to put passes together.

The first half was littered with poor passes, poor choices. We were much improved in the second half.

Do you think Greenwood is being groomed for the No10 role ?.
Definitely, whilst he can play CM I don't personally think he's good enough without the ball. He can fill in at CF too, but I'm convinced he's been brought in as a ten.

We will need to find his space for him though, if that makes sense. Seemed like a concerted effort at start of second to overload the left (McGree, Engel, Coburn) which left gaps for Greenwood centrally.

His lateral movement impressed too (a massive part of Chuba's game last season). Second half he was coming deep, turning and pinging some impressive passes into attacking spaces.

Could be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if we've spent the last two months coaching the hell out of him for that role and are only starting him now when he's ready.

You've got to hold and give
But do it at the right time.
You can be slow or fast
But you must get to the line.

They'll always hit you and hurt you,
Defend and attack.
There's only one way to beat them:
Get round the back.

Catch us if you can
'Cause we're the boro men
And what you're looking at
Is the Carrick plan.

We ain't no hooligans,
This ain't a football song,
One lion on our chests
You know we can't go wrong.
