Parkrun Update

Parkrun hoping to restart in England and Wales on Sat 26th June. Junior parkrun has already started. There will be an announcement on Friday

After last month's abandoned restart parkrun has now had the green light from 76% of park landowners. Parkrun will make an anniuncement this Friday on whether the restart will go ahead as planned later in June. Am sure it will be such a boost for so many and a positive sign of the community finding its feet again.

They said originally 90% permissions or not at all. The last thing parkrun wants is overcrowding.
I had thought Middlesbrough Council had been satisfied with the answers they received. I wonder if they are just being slow in replying.

I think if 8000 football fans can watch an England game in safety at the Riverside then surely 200 people can safely run around a park on a Saturday morning. Come on Teesside councils let us get back to being a fit community again.

By the Thames and Tees councils are being slow to give the green light to a return. Councils are rightly trying to coax us back into shops. Surely they should be doing everything they can to encourage fitness, health and wellbeing in our parks.

Middlesbrough has a mayor with form for keeping people out of parks... 🙂

Really looking forward to Parkrun returning. There is a start line 1.2km from my house which is good for getting me up on Saturday.

Andy Preston just replied to me on twitter to say he wants parkrun back.
He said..
As far as I a@ concerned we will do it. I just need the admin by Park Run and MBC agreed

I would thoroughly recommend Parkrun to anyone.
It is free, very well organised, and you have the option to volunteer to help also. It attracts runners / walkers from all categories....from top club runners, Mums/Dad with push chairs to OAPs. The camaraderie is great, and you can join in a post run coffee at a local venue if you want.. Run at any pace you feel comfortable with, or try for a lung busting eye popping PB each time....something I am guilty of each run. Results or txted to you within the hour usually, and you can log your progress and compare yourself to other Parkrunners per age category. When you have finished a certain amount of runs, 50, 100 , 250 etc...you get a freebie Tshirt. Great way to keep fit also.

Great news👏

I am fully committed to returning to park runs. I did them for many years and then for no real reason stopped.

I've been doing a bit of running during lockdown(s) and gonna start doing park runs again.

I use to do this every week before they stopped. I don’t know if it’s just to put pressure on the London councils, but the rumours I’ve seen are the restart will be delayed again as not enough in London will say yes.

Looks like the green light for Middlesbrough this afternoon.
Lets hope Stockton and Redcar follow suit as well.

It is Middlesbrough that I know - but am hoping the other Tees councils are working in unison on this.
But tomorrow is the overall decision from parkrun and they are need lots of London boroughs and areas such as Newcastle to come on board also. The aim is to come back with 90% of parkruns on the go and then there can be no problems with overcrowding.
Then I suppose any decision to roll back the road map next week could have implications.
But this is significant locally - and hopefully nationally we get the green light tomorrow for the 26th June restart.
