Pandemic team scrapped

No real surprise hewie, if it doesn't make tory backers money, why bother. If you read further down the article about Van Tamm and the head nurse refusing to back Cummings, it makes quite uncomfortable reading. Surely we, as the electorate, want the best people in key health positions during the worst pandemic in our lifetimes.

To marginalise them to defend an aide speaks volumes about this governments intentions for the next 5 years. We should all be asking ourselves why is Cummings so important to No 10?

He doesn't appear to be the brilliant strategist that Johnson and others make out. Yes he got the last election right on a single issue, not sure what else he has delivered. He certainly does not have his finger on the nations pulse as was once clarioned. Why does Johnson feel he is so important? What does he bring to the cabinet? I have no idea, and I am failing to see what it might be.

Do you know what any SPAD brings to the cabinet? Surely unless you work within the government you wouldn’t have any idea what they are doing on a day to day basis. The only difference with Cummings he is “the bogey man” for the left. Surely we want the best people in all positions not just health, I would argue you have no idea if Cummings is the best SPAD to the prime minister and if he is then it’s correct he’s there. Same with all other positions soon as anything slightly contentious turns up people cry “resign” “sack them”. Ministers, SPADs, health officials coming and going like yo-yos if some had their way.

Back to Cummings he also headed up the official leave campaign. A side not expected to win and successfully delivered a result not many were expecting. The odds of 1/7 for remain on voting day showed that.

Also it’s well know Cummings is/was attempting to overhaul an outdated senior civil service. The proposed move of treasury jobs away from London to the north (Middlesbrough potentially) is born out of that. Surely that is a good thing is it not? The movement of work away from London to less affluent areas? How do you know Cummings isn’t the best man to deliver this task? And if he is why would you want him out? As stated we should want the best people in all positions and I don’t think you can with any certainty without actual knowledge of the inner workings state that he isn’t. I can’t state if he is or isn’t therefore leave it for the peopl who’s job it is to make them decisions

Cooper, I said I would ignore your posts, but sometimes you make it difficult. Cummings is, as far as I can see a one trick pony, Brexit. He got that right. His supposed feel for the country was shown for what it was with the Durham debacle. My argument is he doesn't seem that smart, in fact, his reaction to the press suggested he is anything but smart.

The rehaul of westminster was never part of the Tory manifesto, and if that is what they wanted, they should have campaigned on that, they didn't. Is it a good thing? I have no idea, as it wasn't in the manifesto I don't really know what the plan is. What if the plan is to financially devolve the north to concentrate even more wealth in the capital?

As for your ridiculous mantra of folks crying foul when someone misbehaves, I can't be bothered telling you what I think of that opinion. What I will say, is for every whine from the left we have you defending the right. You are a bit of a bore to be honest.

Laughing, why call Cooper a bore, because he always has a different opinion to you

Yes And that’s why people voted him in to power...

oh hang on....

"Also it’s well know Cummings is/was attempting to overhaul an outdated senior civil service."

Cummings is an advisor. It's not his job to be overhauling the senior civil service, outdated or otherwise. If you are, as you claim, a civll servant, you will know that. So why try and parrot the contradiction on here?

Normally I don't bother replying to you but on this occasion I make an exception.

It is not because he has a different opinion, it's because he has one argument, and one argument only. That is why he bores me.

As opposed to just being anti anything government? What is my one argument? You stated you can’t see what he brings to the cabinet and why Johnson is keeping him. I simply stated you have no idea what he brings or if he is the best person for the job or not.... I don’t know therefore leave it to the people who employ him.

Because I’m not actively calling for him to be sacked or believe he is secretly running the government my post is deemed pro Tory. I simply stated you have no idea what he does day to day which you don’t

FG - you shouldn’t have bothered. Strange you don’t want to reply to me but happy to bring my name into threads

Bizarre behaviour 🤔

Dominic Cummings is not a SPAD, he is directing government policy and is literally telling ministers along with Boris Johnson what to say and do.

He represents everything that vote leave wanted to "save us" from.

So nobody knows or it's well known?

Hmm.. Well I do know what he does day to day, fires people where he has no authority to do so, ooh he ends up in court for that little episode, and people say he is smart... What else, writes Johnsons soundbites, I was going to say speaches, but they are not nearly that grand, erm what else, disrespects those around him, media, his colleagues, you and me.. Is that enough to be going on with.

Now to you're one argument, that, quite frankly bores me to tears. You pick on individual points in someones argument, and bicker about those. In doing so you completely ignore the wider issue that is being discussed. Because of this approach, it is pointless engaging with you.

The OP is about how Theresa May scrapped a team dealing with Pandemics in 2018.
If you're going to focus on something unrelated might I suggest the article on Harvey Weinsteins deformed penis, which seems far more interesting than a further extension of the endless Dominic Cummins debate.
