P1sses me off when they say Emirates FA CUP

Yes I’ve just said the same.

It was said when the fa cup rights were sold that we’d never see a company name one the cup it would be the fa cup sponsored by...,

Well Emirates not Emirates anymore Emirates...

The deal is expected to be worth around £10m a year, compared with £9m a year for the Budweiser deal, and would justify the strategy of the FA commercial director, Stuart Turner, in holding out for a better deal. The FA’s new chief executive, the former United Biscuits chief Martin Glenn, arrives at Wembley next month.
But while the deal with Budweiser was styled as “in association with”, the new agreement will see the 144-year-old knockout competition rebranded as the Emirates FA Cup.

Imagine having a trillion pounds and calling the FA CUP by your name. Would you get royalties every time it was used

I believe in sponsorship, but to call it the Emirates FA Cup is to somehow deny everything that has gone on before and the organisation which is the Football Association and the clubs it represents. No problem with the sponsors name being banded about all over the place, that should be enough. It's a bit like the tail wagging the dog.

I’m not so irritated by what they they call the Cup more than the continued downgrading of the competition. No replays, teams putting weakened teams out, kick offs at all times etc. That irritates me more.

I don't think anything harms the cup more than constantly being told that it's been downgraded.

It might as well be renamed the Downgraded FA Cup, or even the FA Big Club Consolation Prize Trophy, and have done with it.

It's not as big of a scam name as the 'Champions league'. They should rename it the 'Top 4 league'.

It's very misleading😂

You suggesting it isn’t?

Well of course it has. The fact that they don’t play the final at 3pm on a Saturday on both terrestrial channels anymore but on pay for view TV underlines that. It should be a celebration day like the Super Bowl is to NFL in the USA. Instead it’s been lost in the weight of commercialism and greed. And fuelled ironically by Americans.

Premier League got it right at wanting a 'clean image' and removing sponsors. I suppose they can afford to though.
