Oxford Vaccine trial put on hold - participant suffers severe reaction

Personally, I find the fact they’ve paused the trial so it can be investigated fully very reassuring that they are actually conducting testing to the highest standards and following the correct procedures. This is a nothing story, and is, I believe, not the first time the trial has been suspended. Hopefully it’ll be running again in a few days

My names not Nobel. Why are you scared of a virus that is now leading to less hospital admissions and deaths than flu. If you are seriously scared of Covid19 you should be petrified of the flu, as it is significantly more likely to now kill you. You're being played, you're just too blinkered to see it

The base of the vaccine is one that has been in development for a number of years for either Ebola/SARS/MERS (can't remember which) and has been tested on 1000's of people previously.

As others have said, someone has gotten ill whilst on the trial, there's nothing to say they wouldn't have gotten ill if they hadn't taken the vaccine.

Not if some pesky blighter in the facemask factory has stuck one to the inside of my mask without me noticing and I inhale. Could prove fatal. There's probably about a 0.01% chance of that happening. about the same as death from Covid
 
I despair at these people that deny the seriousness of harm to so many that this virus can do. Young people get old eventually if they are lucky. I will guarantee their attitudes will evolve as they age and expect the younger generations to do their bit. The virus will still be about attacking people in years to come just like flu does. People like the poster Londons_Moggie above (a new member who might yet prove to be our old friend), will be glad of those that trialled and took any vaccine to help them live a longer and safer future. I would express more caution over the poster than any vaccine made available.

Who exactly is "playing" us, and to what end?

I can't see anyone who is coming out of this in a positive way... surely everyone wants to get back to normal, regardless of whether you're thinking of peoples health, the economy, education, or everyones wellbeing (or indeed, all of the above)
