Outdoor Furniture

Hi there, not the most exciting post, but it is the first time I am buying some outdoor furniture and was wondering if anyone knew of a good website or where to look, or is it all pretty much the same when looking at the numerous different websites.

Cheers UTB

The rattan type furniture is fine for a year , then it goes brittle.
but we didn’t cover ours during the cold months, perhaps if its kept covered when not in use it would be fine .

I was looking at rattan furniture on tectate for my back garden too as it looks decent for a decent price as Billy69 says above……but then I realised I was a 49 year old single bloke living on my own and realised I can just as easily get psssed sitting on the back step or the grass and didn’t need a chair. Obviously my circumstances are different to yours fwiw I’d go rattan from tectate and a good cover or storage shed.

Maze Living delivered a smashing set for us last year. Highly recommend, not the cheapest but high quality stuff

We bought some rattan furniture six or seven years ago and though it has been left out uncovered all that time it is just the same as when we got it (other than where the bloody dog chewed the arms a week after we bought it).

I moaned at my wife that she had paid over the top for it at M&S but maybe it's a thing where you get what you pay for.

If you want something that will last get hardwood and be prepared to treat it every year with teak oil or similar preservative and cover it during winter if you cannot store it inside. I have some hardwood furniture that is at least ten years old (probably 15) and it looks good as new. It is stored under a bungeed tarpaulin through the winter and treated with teak oil before it is covered up for the winter.

That's what I was going to say. Good quality wood will last better than anything if you look after it. A bit of a pain treating it etc but worth it in the long run

We got a half decent rattan set from homebase at the end of the summer sale about 5 years ago and it's fine, think it was half price at about £250. Hardest thing was to find a quality cover that fits properly. I bought 2 which lasted a summer each before spending a bit more on one that has lasted. We normally put ours in the shed over the winter but not this one. I had a peak under the cover last week and it seems fine. If we get 5-6 years out of it before replacing I'll be happy enough, probably get a year or 2 longer actually

We bought a Hartmann 8 seater outdoor rattan table with glass top and a lazy susan turntable half price for a grand from a local garden centre this time last year. It's good quality.

We have aluminium chairs and a table. No need to cover it up and comes with nice cushions as well which we bring indoors. The only thing is it's made in China which really pithes me off. Purchased at a discount from the garden centre on Yarm Road. Still on a look out for the genuine thing, you know, quality Victorian cast iron stuff.

What ever you buy, make sure you take in the cushions before winter. It advice that I have failed to follow on several occasions myself 😔

It's hard to get any cast iron stuff that's a reasonable size generally, probably due to the weight
