Outbreak of respiratory illness in China...

Here we go again. I'd better go out and get some toilet roll.
I'm particularly concerned at this point and if China have had a much slower return to 'normality' then it's right that people's immune systems will have suffered and therefore be more susceptible to nasty bugs. After we had lockdowns here I remember the normal winter bugs seeming a lot worse first time around; that said, I definitely think this is worth keeping an eye on.

The article I read on this suggested that the same effect had been seen in Europe post-lockdown. China appear to be trying to improve relationships with the West at the moment and I wonder if the WHO is using this as an opportunity to get them to be more open, or whether they are concerned enough to be desperate for more information.

The worrying part is that this outbreak affects kids. We all feel a bit more strongly about our kids health than some daft chav who read on facebook that he doesnt have to wear or mask or maintain a social distance.
Fingers crossed it will be managed a lot more effectively than COVID was.

If it did come to pass then the tories still would not care. Children are an economic drain (in the short term). All they are concerned with is making money and they wouldn't bat an eyelid if the unwashed spawn of the great unwashed were to decrease in population. They would however, urge the parents to make replacements as quickly as possible to ensure the pool of labour does not shrink in the long term.,

We can all rest assured that we have a crack team of crisis management experts running the country.

In fact, I think I can hear them now registering their new PPE companies.

Finny's PPE Enterprises has quite a ring to it :)
Just registering it will get me a couple of £million

The Chinese COVID vaccine was pretty carp. They were forced to manage the death rate through draconian isolation measures. I would suspect that this "outbreak" is related to a COVID variant.

Mind, it's never too late to start a PPE company.

Listened to Desert Island Discs episode the other day. It was the bloke who is one of the presenters off the Sewing Bee thing on telly. Patrick Grant. He lost his father to COVID. He also has/had at the time a clothing manufacturing facility in Blackburn and owns a Saville Row tailors, he offered to "run up" PPE for the Government at short notice...

Of course nothing happened. Probably not the right sort of entrepreneur (as in one who knew a bit about making clothing)
