I've noticed this also and I've long since thought that it may well be a marketing thing. Selling shirts to the Asian market. It's a big fan base there to tap in to.
it just seems to be a new trend.
Keiron Scott mentioned about how he seems to favour Australian and Americans.. or seems to uncover gems from there.
Australia had a huge overhaul of their approach to youth sports.. so their athletes have improved as a result. MLS has been growing in popularity and we’re seeing some great players from that neck of the woods as a result.
There seems to be a market increase in ROI players in recent years.. I’m assuming that’s due to the investment in coaches and coaching levels over there.
I’ve notice the Japanese national game improving quite a lot.. I wonder if the infrastructure has changed over there in recent years?
I remember a surge in popularity of Uruguan players at one point.. a few years ago now. Their national team was rather so highly.. but their players were often overlooked in favour of the more fashionable Brazilians or even Argentinians.
Japan.. the new hotbed of footballing talent?
There’s often a financial element attached to these trends. I.e., Uruguayans being the best value South Americans, ROU tge best value British players.. the Dutch bring a cost effective alternative to the Spanish.
Japan along with Australia and the USA could be untapped markets for European clubs.. and we’re a decent level.. perhaps more importantly a potential strppingvsyinecyo the prem.
