Our fans do my head in!

I'm so tired of our 'fans' kicking up a fuss about the lack of signings then after its revealed who we're signing it's doom and gloom 'Who's that' 'Cant see him being good enough for us 'From Gyorkeres to this' oh shut up!

For years we've sat in complete awe at 2 models when it came to recruitment. Brentford and Norwich who have time and again picked up gems for little or no transfer fee and then have gone on to absolutely smash it and make themselves massive profits and result in promotion.

Pukki, Buendia, Maupay, Toney, Hogan amongst the many success stories at least at their club that have either cost little and gave huge profits or just been great players for them.

Enter Kieran Scott, Norwich supremo responsible for a fair few of those in his time coming into make Boro have a model other side's can be in of awe of.
Transfers are going slow - He doesn't know what he's doing?! Why's he taking so long?!

Marcus Forss £1.5- £3 million - A man who has actually contributed double figures in a promoted side and who their fan base rate completely and were actually sad he's been sold for such a measly fee. A finisher on a low price who's played 25 minutes since arriving
Boro fans verdict - 'Why isn't he going for Gyorkeres, such a snip at 18 million, not good enough for Brentford in the Premier League he's clearly crap!'

Matthew Hoppe - £2.5-£3 million - Only last season considered a promising talent in the Bundesliga, made a leap of faith to Spain that hasn't paid off but the lad got a goal every 222 in the Bundesliga as a teenager.
Boro fans Verdict - 'Not exactly getting the pulses racing is he, Where's Gyorkeres for £18 million'

It's a marathon not a sprint, these are players who want to come play for Middlesbrough, that can't be said for a lot of players who turn us down, they are taking a leap of faith and joining us and deserve us to back them from the second they walk through the door.

Wilder wants 5 strikers
???? ???? Forss Hoppe Akpom/Watmore
There is likely another 2 walking through the doors of Rockliffe.
One of those is probably gonna be the big Norwegian. He clearly wants to come here and don't he surprised to see him through the door before August Ends.
People are absolutely raving about him because he's gonna cost us £9 million +? I mean I think he's a good player and I really want him here but is he really more exciting than Forss? 10 goals in this league previously? Mainly from the bench?

I for one am very excited by these players, if they turn out to be a jewel in the crown then we could see promotion incoming or absolutely massive transfer fees incoming

I agree and think it is a far more sensible approach to running the football club. It was a policy decision that was made a while back and Gibson has brought the right person to the club in Scott to do that.

The one thing I would reference is Wilders 'marquee signing' comment. If that was the clubs approach then why publicly use such comments?

I don’t think the stats for hoppe , forss and Larsen are too fantastic so this is where our recruitment team will hopefully show their worth based on what you’ve seen .
If they actually hit the ground running then shine in the World Cup hopefully the club wont buckle in January

Been following the Boro for 34 years now and some things have never changed. The chicken run. The moans at signing Mustoe for £300k. The cheers at signing Davenport for £750k. Everything is sh*t until proved otherwise. I've become used to this, not going to change......but I don't want it to. It's part of us. UTB 👍

The advantage of signing relatively unknown young players is that they are cheap to buy and cheap to pay - they are developing and you can buy say 4 of them and if just 1 makes it big you have won.

These lads are cheaper than many U23s from some Premier clubs.

Good post. Agree with all of it.

I’d imagine other clubs’ fans aren’t exactly patient buddist monks either though, and they are just as likely to throw their toys if they were in the same situation. Boro fans are no different.

100% agree..... I mean I'd shudder to think how much we've payed out on Giles / Linerhan and Steffen. These will cost a fortune by champo standards in terms of wages and loan fees.

People need to get a grip. We are being slated for offering 5-9mil for players. The majority of champo clubs are scratching around for players at 500k-1mil.

The thing that annoys me most is the sheer amount of folk on twitter saying we've got 25mil to spend. I'm presuming they are on crack. It's half that with FFP and wages.

I'm just had they ain't Boro's accounts 😂

People forget George Friend was a 100k deal from an awful Doncaster team.
Daniel Ayala 250k bench warmer wherever he'd been
Dimi 38 year old ex Hartlepool keeper
Grant Leadbitter, Free Transfer from a poor Ipswich team
Albert Adomah 950k from Bristol City .
Adam Clayton just over a million from Huddersfield

That's 6 members of our promotion winning team and they cost just north of £2 million.
It doesn't matter what's came before, your numbers or your price tag, all that matters is these boys get on the pitch and do the buisness in the here and now!

I'd argue Zack Steffen - Pep's trusted number 2 is pretty marquee
The best LWB in the league last season is a pretty marquee signing
The captain of a promotion rival sought after by other big championship clubs is pretty marquee

Predictable all’s well at The Boro reaction.
Let’s hope it is.
And that there is some quality to still come.

Spot on, was going to reply a condensed version of that on equilisers thread.

Footballs moved on a lot from the days where we could sign players of the calibre of Juninho, Ravanelli, Emerson, Viduka, Mendietta…

Teams like Bournemouth are signing our best players, Brentford and Brighton are premier league teams. We’re struggling to sign players from Coventry and FC Groningen.

For the first time in an age though it feels we have an actual plan and philosophy. No more throwing money at players such as Assombalonga and Gestede. Players like Gayle were rumoured to be rejected because they have no resale value.

We seem to be focussing on youth, Spence, Tavernier, Jones… all picked up for nothing but with a high resale value.

Signing players like Forss and Hoppe is an evolution from a previous failed model. Young and hopefully talented players that just might have a long and successful career at the club, they may even be sold for a reasonable profit… but if they fail they have been of little risk financially to the club.

The age of marquee signings is arguably over and the future seems to be young players with talent that hopefully will have a higher resale value, free signings with a sprinkling of loans.

Let’s get behind the club and not make prejudgment on players that very few of us know a great deal about… These playes might, just might be our new hero’s come the end of the season. UTB

I was really critical of Connolly and balgun last season I could see after his first 45 minutes Connolly didn't have the quality . But I think at least one of these 3 strikers will be a success this season. hoppe to me looks like has the physicality as well as the skill. If we could get a decent physical presence in midfield and the strikers hit form then I think the top two isn't out of the question

Ugh, come on mate, I suggest you give up on football because I look on other message boards and talk to other fans and guess what, they also moan about signings, and some of them are man city fans. If you are seriously that sick of it you may need to abandon football and all that goes with it lol. No look on a non antagonist serious note, this has always been how football fans are, ours are no better or no worse, and this sort of thing shouldn't be a surprise, take care of yourself and try to ignore it. At least its not another political thread and is actually football related stuff
