Organ donation??

Walked back into the room to find my wife having a rant at the telly because an adverts just been on saying for organ donation you now have to opt out by this date or consent is assumed. Whereas I think “ They can take the lot” she’s not too comfortable with it. Now my reply was “AND”, but she went on to explain that at least with a donor card you can choose which bits you give. “Fair enough” I said, still thinking what’s the problem. But then she said there was supposed to be a year for a public consultation but this is the first time it’s been mentioned. But then she said if they’re taking it from everybody what will they do with the excess body parts? Will they suddenly be sold to America or elsewhere to “Fund the NHS”?? Now that has got me thinking!

There was a public consultation

https://www.gov.uk/government/consu...gans-and-tissues-excluded-from-the-new-system

But if you're very concerned about any aspect of it, don't you just opt out (easiest option), or attach some conditions (and the hospital can decide whether or not your parts are worth the hassle)?

It is also used in many other countries.

"Other countries with presumed-consent policies include Austria, France, Columbia, Norway, Italy, and Singapore. In Austria, the rate of donation quadrupled within 8 years of a presumed-consent policy's being introduced."

Searching government websites isn’t what most people would think of as public consultation. Rather than an advert to say times nearly up perhaps adverts a bit sooner to point people in the direction of the consultation.

Gibson has employed plenty of useless pricks down at the Boro so I'm sure those particular parts won't go to waste.

I’ve known about this for ages. It was well published for at least couple years . Can’t believe anyone is going use this to have a pop at government
